Is this a bit naff?

DH suggested the name April for DD1 but we ended up going for Sylvie instead which we love. Now pregnant with DD2 and still really like April but as baby is actually due in April, I don’t know if it makes it a bit naff? Or does it make it better that it’s the birth month? It’s also the month we got married so it does have lovely meaning.

What do you think?

I think April, when someone is born in April, makes perfect sense. Otherwise it seems odd to me. I always expect someone called Summer to be born in Summer as well. Maybe that's just me!

I think April's a pretty name. Nothing naff about it. It always seems a bit odd to me if children are named after a month or a season but are born in a different one.

I'm not keen on Olive (on my phone so can't see your other names and I've forgotten which ones were on your list). It makes me think of Olive from On the Buses or Olive Oyl (Popeye's girlfriend).

That's probably just my age. There are lots of baby names that are popular now but were seen as real old ladies' names and old men's names when I was growing up. It always takes me a few years to get used to children answering to those names.

April is a lovely name. I don't think it matters whether a baby with the name is born in April or not.

georgialondon · 07/12/2019 13:21

I like it. It's better if they are born in April as it's the first question everyone will always ask her.

emilybrontescorsett · 07/12/2019 13:30

I think April suits a baby born in April.

midsomermurderess · 07/12/2019 13:38

The vast majority of people she meets won't know, or care, for that matter, what her birthday is.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 07/12/2019 13:42

I prefer Nancy to April. And it goes better with Sylvie.

AdaColeman · 07/12/2019 13:50

April is my favourite from your list, I like Pearl too, but not keen on the others. I think it would be lovely for an April born baby.

Crystal87 · 07/12/2019 13:52

It's ok, but it's only something I'd use if she was born in April.

Ohyesiam · 07/12/2019 13:54

I think it makes it better.

BikeRunSki · 07/12/2019 14:51

I think April would be a weird name for a child not born in April.

I read a book once- I think it was The World According to Garp where a fairly lowly person named Alice changed two letters of my name to give me greater status or something like that, and became Olive.

Pearl - don’t like
Olive - ok
April - love
Nancy - Love

EleanorShellstrop100 · 08/12/2019 02:33

I love all the names on your list! I’m not sure I could choose a favorite if I had to!

NoSauce · 08/12/2019 02:46

April is awful.

Nancy is so much better. Imo.

1forAll74 · 08/12/2019 03:36

April is lovely.. a springtime name.so the best.

Bluerussian · 08/12/2019 04:11

I like the name, April, or Avril the French version. Very pretty.

littleorangecat22 · 08/12/2019 04:13

It makes a whole lot more sense to name a baby born in April "April" than it does if they're born in, say, October. Go for it!

pinkpeoniesplease · 08/12/2019 06:57

I'd think it odd if April wasn't born in April I think 🤔
I love the name Winter but I'm due in Spring so it's a no go for me 🤣
I say go for it!

ikeakia · 08/12/2019 07:11

April is the only one on your list I like. I think it sounds lovely, and is a lovely connection to a happy month for you .

motortroll · 08/12/2019 07:22

One of my favourite names! Was on my list for my 3rd and she was a December baby! Who cares what people think there's far "naffer" names! Please use it, it's beautiful!

Just don't go with middle name May.....that would be naff!

motortroll · 08/12/2019 07:25

Also my daughters middle name is Winter which she would have had whatever time of year she was born because it's a family name. And yes I would have gone with April Winter if I had chosen it!

salsmum · 08/12/2019 10:59

April is lovely... but my name is june 😉 I'm asked occasionally if I was born in june then I have to explain no I was born in April Confused my parents were married in june.... then I child in 2 years previously 😀 I've only met a few june's but no April's.

Cotswoldmama · 08/12/2019 11:10

I don't think April's a good name for someone not born in April. I like the name definitely not Avril though makes me think of anvil

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2019 12:39

Any of the names on your list will go beautifully with Sylvie as they all have a vintage feel.

I don't think it matters one bit whether an April is actually born in that month.

VenusClapTrap · 08/12/2019 12:59

Love April.

BaronessBomburst · 08/12/2019 13:06

I love April and it's perfect for a baby born in April. If she comes in March or May use Olive instead.
