Sophia - too popular?

We just found out the gender of our first child at a growth scan at 39 weeks. We're delighted to be having a girl! Over the last few months, we had ironed out our favourite first names for each gender and our girl name is Sophia. We like the meaning (wisdom) and that it's classic and easy for people to know how to pronounce on sight. But now I'm having second thoughts as it's so very popular. Should we consider a different first name???
The other thing we've been thinking about is what middle names to use, if we stick with Sophia. We plan to have 2 middle names as that's what DH's family do. Both of my grandmothers were named Margaret, so we definitely want that as 1 of the middle names, even if we change our first name. What do people think for the other middle name and the ordering?
If we stick with Sophia, here are some of our favourite combos so far:

Sophia Helen Margaret (Helen is a family name on DH's side)

Its lovely and classic and popular for a reason. Go for it if you love it. I like Sophia Margaret Elizabeth (as long as your last name doesn't begin with a G!)

Sophia is lovely, and although it is fairly popular, there still won't be half a dozen in her class. No names are that popular these days.

Sophia Margaret Hope or Sophia Margaret Helen would be my choices from your list.

I actually haven’t met one yet in four years at baby groups but I see from the charts that yes it’s popular. Agree with PP though that names aren’t like they used to be - the days of 1 in ever 4 men being called John are gone

You can look at the percentage and calculate how many babies per 1000 are called Sophia and see if you can live with that number?

We have a Sofia, we also have four kids.
He my sons reception year there is 1 (90 kids)
Y1 there are aren't any (90 kids)
Y4 1 (90 kids)
Y10 I'm not sure but I've never heard her mention any.

We come across the odd one but certainly not loads.

Sophia is a lovely name and quite an unusual choice ATM. I think Olivia or Helen would fit best as middle name along with Margaret.

Far too popular for me. I know a lot of girls called Sophia. It is an extremely popular name, similar to Ava and Amelia where I live, and she'll go through life meeting many other Sophias, but the plus is that people really like it - all generations seem to love it- so you'd get very positive reactions announcing it. Adding Margaret to the name does make it more intetesting and help distinguish it from the hundreds of girls out there called Sophia Grace, Sophia Rose and Sophia May etc. I think you should use it- you love it and have thought through your choice.

I do like the name, and works in every culture.

My niece is sophia but there were 5 girls in her class of 20 at school so a 5th of class were sophia!

But perhaps it’s just very popular where I live, but with good reason.

I prefer Sophie as I have a little Sophie myself loads more Sophia's about.

If you look on the actual name charts the number of babies called Sophia has consistently declined since 2013 so it’s not anywhere near as popular as it was. Hope this helps

I have a Sophia Holly Louise. Always loved the name after hearing the actress' name Sophia Loren many moons ago. I know no other Sophia's and she is the only one in her school - in fact the only child in her school with a name beginning with S!!! which she loves.

From your list, I like Sophia Helen Margaret or as pp said Sophia Margaret Helen the most. The others are also nice. But I think honouring both sides of the family is also an added bonus.

Sophia Helen Margaret. But there are two pronunciations of Sophia, so not obvious how to pronounce it. I would always go for the traditional English way first - So-FYE-a.

Sophia is a beautiful name

We have a Sophia Elizabeth. I'm a teacher and haven't come across that many others, but I don't think it really matters.
It is a beautiful name and our little girl suits it perfectly.
There were lots of Helens when I was at school and university, but I still like my name!

I only know 2 Sophias and they are both sooooo adorable!!! 💕

I'm biased but I much prefer Sophie, more classic and less of it's time than Sophia. It just looks and sounds better

As for middle names, I like Sophia Margaret Hope, or Sophia Margaret Helen.

Also agree with previous posters that Sophia is very ‘now’. Sophie to me is more classic and pretty.

I only like the name Sophie when said in a French accent 😀

It can sound so harsh in certain accents (and tv soaps!) so Sophia is nicer imo.

Sorry I think Sophia is terribly boring on account of how many there are - especially when combined with the Sofias and Sophies.

Love Margaret, Gabriella and Hope. Elizabeth is fine. Olivia is extremely common.

Could you have Margaret, Gabriella or Hope as the first name?

Oh and Helen is also lovely, in fact is my favourite. Helen Margaret Hope is beautiful.

I prefer Sophie too but Sophia is very nice. It was very popular about 8 years ago around me. Helen is nice. I don't think you need two middle names with a three syllable first name.

Sophia Helen Tea is nice as is Sophia Margaret Tea.
