What do people think of the name Sidney for a little boy? Will mainly be Sid I would imagine.

Oh my goodness 🙈 so hard isn't it! We had a girls name we both agreed on but turns out we are having a boy and we cant think of a name we both like!
We like old style names, traditional and a bit different and thought maybe Sid was the one but it hasn't gone down to well 🙈
We also like George and Arthur but they are both so popular.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a girl Sydney.

She's never had any stupid nicknames from her friends I.e Sydney the kidney...maybe lucky idk?

it's a marmite name, I know some people that were horrified by our choice but 70% of people love it since it's not as widely used as Olivia/Isabelle/the usual common names. I think it's as unusual for a boy as it is a girl. We've mostly had people telling us how much they love it and it suits her.

Anyway to each their own but I think it's a brill choice

I love it!

VenusClapTrap · 23/11/2019 09:25

I like it. Sid is brilliant.

Hate it as a girl’s name thorough.

‘Though’ not ‘thorough’.

11yo nephew is a Sid and he loves it. It's cool and strong and different enough to mark him out from all the Jacks etc. Never had any taunts AFAIK.

He really dislikes Sidney but he might prefer it in later life, it's good to have the option.

FizzyGreenWater · 23/11/2019 21:50

I love it as a girl's name Sydney, not so keen for a boy.

Makinglists · 23/11/2019 21:55

I like it though I'm biased as my 86 year old dad is called Sid. Sid vicious makes it cool in my mind......

itsgettingweird · 23/11/2019 21:56

I like the name. My grandads name.

However I always i magazines I'd use it as a girl - Sydney

Mumma4262 · 15/12/2019 17:15

I adore this name!

Absolutely go for it Smile

Luckingfovely · 15/12/2019 17:30

I can't bear it, sorry.

misspiggy19 · 15/12/2019 17:34

Boring and run of the mill.

brimfullofasha · 15/12/2019 17:45

I'm not so keen on Sidney but I think Sid is a cool name. I like it- not too common but still fits in with the Grandad name thing.
