Malachi
Caius
Zachariah
Castiel

If this was your shortlist, which two would you pick

They all sound awful and pretentious to me. Are they specific to your culture?

daisypond · 19/11/2019 09:39

Unusual but all are fine. I like them all. I know people with three of these names. Zachariah is safest. Caius I like, but you might get people pronouncing it the Cambridge way.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/11/2019 09:49

Caius I like, but you might get people pronouncing it the Cambridge way which is how daisypond?

I really like Caius.

daisypond · 19/11/2019 10:06

@SleepingStandingUp. Like Keys.

OhMyDarling · 19/11/2019 10:07

@MrsBertBibby 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bigoldwimp · 19/11/2019 10:15

Malachi and Zachariah but the Malachis I know are always shortened to “Kai” which I don’t like as much as the full name. Caius has a nice meaning though

MadameJosephine · 19/11/2019 10:31

Zachariah is my favourite but I quite like Caius too, don’t think I’ve ever come across one before (I’m a midwife so do come across lots of babies)

SleepingStandingUp · 19/11/2019 14:38

@daisypond thanks, def not the one we'd go for

Botanica · 19/11/2019 19:40

If I saw Caius I would immediately presume it was pronounced 'Keys'. Never heard it pronounced any other way.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/11/2019 19:47

@Botanica I think you're just posher than me. I'd say it to rhyme with pious

OP posts:
IAcceptCookies · 19/11/2019 22:24

I’d also think “keys” for Caius.

I like Zachariah best from your list.

DramaAlpaca · 19/11/2019 22:27

I'd struggle to pick even one, but if you forced me I'd go for Caius.

VenusClapTrap · 19/11/2019 22:33

The original Latin name was pronounced to rhyme with pious: Gaius, which evolved into Caius.

It is my nephew’s name, although as he is Dutch it is spelt and pronounced the Dutch way, which is somewhere between kays and kees but with the sound of a furball being brought up at the beginning.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/11/2019 22:43

Haha I might miss that pronunciation Venus.
I like Gaius too but prefer Cai to Gai
