What do you think of the name Jacob?
Does the supplanter meaning and biblical reference put you off? Some people have expressed to me that the meaning of names is very important and Jacob has such a negative meaning.
Would Jacob sound nice with Noah or are they too biblical together?
Any other recommendations of names to go with Noah? I prefer names with limited to no nickname options.

Thank you all. Still struggling to decide between Jacob as first name, using Toby Jacob or just seen the post on Fraser and something really drawing me to Fraser. Only worry is that its too different in style to Noah.
Thank you all. Really appreciate your help.

I have a Jacob, never been called Jake.

We're also in Scotland where 'jakey' is slang for a drug addict/alcoholic.

Fraser is also a lovely name.

I have a Jacob and he’s never called Jake - I always call him Jacob and sometimes Jaco all his friends call him JJ

Really like Fraser , Isaac and Toby good , Jacob is ok but prefer the others esp with a b surname.. not always shortened either

HappydaysArehere · 17/11/2019 22:16

We have a Jacob in our family. He is nearly 22 and never heard his name shortened.

weirdsmell · 17/11/2019 22:21

In Scotland ‘Jakey’ is how we refer to alcoholics. I have never heard anyone use the term for a drug addict, they are ‘Junkies’

Also know of more than one Jacob who do not get called Jake.

Fraser Jacob is nice

Fraser and Noah sound nice together.

Both nice sturdy names, not overly popular but also not out there.

Astronica · 18/11/2019 07:58

I don't know what you mean by 'too biblical'.... Jacob and Noah are both biblical names.... and it's the first thing I think of when I hear them together ... so is being biblical too biblical?

I really like Fraser and don't see any problem with Fraser as Noah's brother. Personally I prefer that pairing over Noah and Jacob. As both Noah and Fraser are current on-trend names they sound fine together to me. I also like Toby as Noah's brother.

midsomermurderess · 19/11/2019 16:09

Jacob will always be shortened? I think Jacob Rees-Mogg might disagree.

MissHenty · 19/11/2019 16:48

I vote Jacob or Toby. I think they sound great with Noah

Fraser I would feel a bit weird using that name if I wasn’t Scottish. Up to you though x

MissHenty · 19/11/2019 16:48

Can you let us know what you decide @olympia7

India999 · 19/11/2019 21:12

Jacob is lovely. My nephew is Jacob and has never been shortened to Jake.

Chickoletta · 19/11/2019 21:25

My nephew is called Jacob (lovely name) but DB calls him Jakey, which we all hate.

olympia7 · 19/11/2019 21:33

MissHenty Still undecided. I think I really like Toby Jacob however surname is think bouncy thing beginning with B and not sure if Toby Surname goes or not.

@olympia7 for what it’s worth I think the surname goes great with Jacob or Toby. It’s a slightly tricky surname though, I do see what you mean. I like that the “B” in both Toby and Jacob being repeated in the first letter of the surname. I think there’s a nice symmetry to that ❤️
