Do you worry about baby's initials?

I was wondering how much you pay attention to any possibly words your childrens' initials spell out.
We have a double barrelled surname T-K. We are thinking possibly of calling our DC3 Florence or Freya, middle name Annette (family name). The problem is it spells FAT-K. Is that an issue? Will she be called fatty? or am I reading too much into it?! At work we use initials and I just use LTK so my middle name isn't ever used.

Any thoughts welcome!

ps these aren't our only names, just wondering if we need to nix them now!

I’d use a different name than Annette - do you have to use that? What about Florence Janette instead? Or Florence Nanette?

badg3r · 13/11/2019 21:38

I would ditch Annette. Does your niece know you intend to use it? Or does she have a middle name you can use instead?

A girl at school was SMEG and she got taunted about it all the time. Nothing to do with the kitchen appliances 🙄

Thanks everyone. We really wanted to use Annette because it’s my MIL’s name as well as my favourite aunt’s. We can’t use it as a first name because my 1yo niece is called Annette. There is the potential to add a second middle name before Annette but then the whole name is 8 syllables which is pretty long. Argh!

It also goes further than school, and will potentially be relevant in the workplace. I joined the police and had to use my full initials (like GSF) umpteen times per DAY. They are used for exhibit numbers, so embarrassing ones would be a nightmare in court, and a great source of amusement amongst your colleagues.

LTK73 · 13/11/2019 22:24

@twattingdog if you had a double barrelled surname would they have just used that instead of your middle name? I also use initials at work and I don’t use my middle name as my surname is double barrelled

Yes, I believe so. I didn't work with many people with double barrelled names, but then I also don't know if they had middle names,

Thegreymethod · 14/11/2019 14:58

I love your name choices, one of them is the name of my daughter but I'd avoid FAT to be honest, they probably wouldn't use her full name initials at school but if they did it wouldn't be great, and once other children cotton on to the initials, especially as they get older, it might become a problem

sleepismysuperpower1 · 14/11/2019 19:49

could you add in a name before annette (just a short one, maybe Eve or May?)

Peakypolly · 14/11/2019 19:58

I know a S.O.D. and a B.U.M. neither were bullied.

Gingernaut · 14/11/2019 20:08

Nothing useful.

ojo821 · 14/11/2019 20:14

Honestly, I’d use it if you really like it. I rarely use my full initials anyway (I also have a double-barrelled surname so often can’t be asked to include middle names in initials). Would you really rather change the name on the POSSIBILITY that someone might pick up on it? I have over 10 syllables in my name and it’s a nuisance to say in one go.

At school I knew someone with the initials BS. We might’ve laughed slightly at the time we found out but we laughed with them rather than at them. We never mentioned it again...

My dads friend had the initials WCC he was nicknamed 'double flush' - never got rid of it 😱

debbieallinson · 14/11/2019 20:45

I would avoid initials that spelt anything. My step daughter is OCD and its stitched on to all her clothes in school.

PollyShelby · 14/11/2019 20:50

We use full initials at school on books, Sports kits and internal paperwork.

You can't put FAT anything on a sports kit as the other schools will rip her for it.

Thank you so much everyone! Food for thought. @Gingernaut brilliant!
