Honest opinions please don’t even mind harsh ones haha
What do you think of the name Layla?
My partner loves this name always has he mentioned it when he 1st met 10 years ago. He won’t budge doesn’t even talk about about any other names and I know he will just say he doesn’t like anything else. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. It wouldn’t be my choice but he won’t like anything else. He got it from a song he and his dad love.
What do you think of it?

Don't love it, prefer the spelling Leila.

OverthinkingThis · 13/11/2019 21:08

Love it (prefer Leila though) - was on my list but DP vetoed it.

You have to go with a name you both really like OP. Your DP will have to learn to budge if you don't agree with his choice of name

I know 13yo Layla. Its a great name. Also like Leila but think people mispronounce that lee-lah

daisypond · 13/11/2019 21:11

I like it, but prefer Leila. I definitely think Eric Clapton as well.

Thetimetravelerswife · 13/11/2019 22:23

Sorry I dislike...don’t think it’s classic at all, and very overused.
I used to like it...but now it’s so overdone.
It’s the new Lola...

And Lila is the new Layla

User1704 · 14/11/2019 07:07

I might of made him sound a bit harsh he hasn’t said this is the name we’re picking n that’s it. He just loves it so much any other name he just doesn’t like.
At the minute I don’t have any name I love. My favourite is probably Annabelle at the but even that doesn’t feel right yet. I have time still.
Just wanted an idea what people think of Layla I’ve mentioned it to my Mam and she just doesn’t say anything so that means she doesn’t like it and is being polite haha

Sorry to be 'one of those posters', but it's common in my area....not in a good way.

Leila is nicer and classier.

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/11/2019 14:11

There is something about the spelling/way it looks that I don’t like for some reason.

Cineraria · 14/11/2019 14:22

I always thought I didn't like this name at all but then I heard it said by people with Arabic as their first language (from Lebanon) and was surprised at how beautiful it sounded. Hard to convey using English language letters but the first "a" pronounced the same as the last one Luhy-luh.

Astronica · 15/11/2019 03:26

It's quite nice. And generally well liked I think as it's in the popular name lists.

If you don't grow to love it then you need to find a name you both can like.

PeopleWhoRun · 15/11/2019 03:38

I think it's beautiful.

But you have to pick a name that you both love. If he's set on it you could compromise as a middle name. Pick something else that you both love Flowers

IvyWinters · 15/11/2019 10:01

Very common in my area! Sorry!

Staffori · 15/11/2019 17:15

My Turkish friend's daughter's name is spelt Leyla. I think it's very pretty and feminine but it is getting a lot more common.

Kjan · 15/11/2019 19:49

We picked this name when we met for our first baby and now I am pregnant my DH changed his mind and doesn’t want to call our baby to be Leyla but Myriam 🤷🏻‍♀️
I still try to convince him
My mum would like to call her Essia

Laylalayla · 17/11/2019 14:03

Name changed because my friend sent me this link. I'm a Layla. It was considered quite exotic when I was younger and I could never get personalised bits.

Now, it's way overused, normally with a Layla-may which I hate. I don't think it's full as PP have said but there aren't nicknames.

Also never in my 30 years has anyone ever said 'Lay-her' to me. Did used to get a lot of singing though 😆

Thinkingsticks · 17/11/2019 15:15

I really like Layla/Leila whatever way you spell it.

Have you suggested anything similar to DH Lila, Lyra, kayla, Lola?
X

Pussinboots25 · 17/11/2019 17:52

Love it! I would personally spell it Laila. One of my friends is Laila and often gets Lai for short which look better than Lay (sorry that’s not really relevant!) Grin

HeadlessGummyBears · 21/11/2019 04:04

It’s a lovely name. I think it’s on the same level as Jasmine or Adam as it works well across different cultures. @Cineraria Layl means night/night-time in Arabic so Layla so it has been used in the Middle East and even in South East Asia, I’m assuming with the Muslims, some of whom take inspiration from Arabic names.

finallychangedmyusername · 21/11/2019 08:39

I really like Layla and echo what the previous poster says, it's a truly international, cross-cultural name.

Whattodoabout · 21/11/2019 10:08

I’m not a huge fan, it’s quite popular at my DC’s school. It’s inoffensive and a bit drab.

Grufallosfriends · 21/11/2019 14:06

I like it.

SoftBlocks · 21/11/2019 14:07

Prefer Leila.

Grufallosfriends · 21/11/2019 14:19

But Leila can be pronounced like Sheila.

I prefer Layla.

Passthecherrycoke · 21/11/2019 14:20

Love it
