I’m expecting a baby boy and I’m really loving the name Fabian. 😍 Any (kind) thoughts please? x

Could be worse definitely. It might grow on me.

catinb0oots · 07/11/2019 07:20

Is it pronounced Fabe-ee-an or Fab-ee-an?

Lavenderblues · 07/11/2019 07:40

In German it's pronounced Fab ee an.

In English it's also pronounced Fayb ee an.

Reminds me of Fabian Society.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2019 10:16

The Fabian society was named after a person -'in honour of the Roman general Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus (nicknamed Cunctator, meaning the "Delayer")' according to wiki.

Starfish83 · 07/11/2019 10:58

Thanks Errol. I wonder why they didn’t go for use the name Quintus/Quintan for the society - would have been less of a problem for my baby name choice! 😬

I’m definitely not a Tory, but am a bit bothered if many associate it heavily with politics?!

To add to Lavender’s post re. pronunciation, we’d probably go with the British pronunciation - “Fay-bee-un”. I’m aware the name can also be spelt ‘Fabien’ in other countries but, in France, for example, the name is pronounced differently...

More thoughts welcome...a bit stuck here! x

I like it, depends on the surname a little I guess? I know a Fabian and it really suits him... and he's far from Tory!

Clawdy · 07/11/2019 11:03

I was madly in love with Fabian, the American singer and actor, when I was about twelve! He was so cute and lovely, I have loved that name ever since!

JonnyPocketRocket · 07/11/2019 11:05

I think it's gorgeous OP!
Can I be really cheeky and ask what other boy's names are on your list? I so rarely hear a boy's name I really like and at 39 weeks am really stuck for what to call ours! Maybe we have similar taste...!?

SallyWD · 07/11/2019 11:06

I really like it.

Well, there were lots of Quintus's in Rome. There were probably quite a lot called Fabius too... really the society should have gone for the distinctive Maximus Verrucosus (yes, it means 'warty')Grin

Errol Grin

JonnyPocketRocket, thanks! Other names are currently Raphael, Rufus and Gabriel. I also like Micah, Marius, Griffin and Nikolai. I'm intrigued by your list too? Let's share ideas! Hope you're feeling well.

That's a great name. He you could rebrand his friendship group 'The Fabian Society' for lols to embarrass him as a teen

Starfish83 · 07/11/2019 19:47

Brilliant! Thanks Lady Monica x

Don’t like it at all

Jemimapuddleduk · 07/11/2019 20:35

Love it and know a fab little Faibien.

JonnyPocketRocket · 07/11/2019 22:45

Oh you've got some lovely names on your list @Starfish83!
Micah is on our list too, along with Felix, Emerson, Inigo, Reuben and Casimir (though I'm a bit on-again-off-again with that last one; we don't have any East European heritage...). We also like Arthur, although it seems a little out of place there amongst the other less popular options!

Starfish83 · 08/11/2019 13:43

Thank you, @JonnyPocketRocket - I love your names too! (We can’t have a Felix or Reuben due to those names being in the family already.) Good luck with your choice! I’m going to start a new thread with our shortlist so may see you over there! x
