Is this too 'out there'?

Little but in love with the name 'Winter' for a girl but think I'll get some stick for it. Thoughts?

But I agree it's not that 'out there.' I think if you suggested 'Spring' then that would be really pushing the bar

I used to know someone with a middle name, Spring. She liked it. Smile

bridgetreilly · 06/11/2019 00:50

For me it's not so much that it's out there, it's that winter is such a miserable, cold, rainy, grey, dark season. Why would you name a kid after that? I don't love Summer as a name, but I at least understand why people choose it.

SaveTheTreesPlease · 06/11/2019 01:09

I think it’s cool! Winnie for short?

PointlessUsername · 06/11/2019 01:10

I really like it.

Cookit · 06/11/2019 06:45

I like it.

AuntieStella · 06/11/2019 06:48

It was a boy's name traditionally, but dropped completely out of use, probably a good century ago

I still think of it as a boy's name though

Astronica · 06/11/2019 06:59

I think it's really quite lovely and evocative. Not too out there at all.

(There was an American actress called Spring Byington - Spring sounds gorgeous to me with the right surname.)

Leopardprintboots · 06/11/2019 08:13

I don’t think of winter as a dark and miserable season. I think it’s magical 💫

Great name but spelt Winter (not Wynter )

HappyDinosaur · 06/11/2019 08:17

I love it for a boy, I think it would surprise me on a girl, but it's a good strong name.

Marcipex · 06/11/2019 08:18

I love Winter and especially January, and I’m in a little town in the south west too.

CharDeeMacDennis · 06/11/2019 08:22

Reminds me of a lovely girl at school who was a couple of years older than me, called... January!

Ooh, me too, wonder if we went to the same school Grin

I like Winter.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 06/11/2019 08:32

How lovely @Melroses

it's that winter is such a miserable, cold, rainy, grey, dark season. Why would you name a kid after that?

Not really. We find winter depressing because we don't live in tandem with the seasons anymore. Winter should be a time of reflection, of slowing down, consuming the the previous years harvest, connecting with family and others inside. You've done the sowing in Spring, you maintain the crop in the Summer, you harvest in Autumn, you preserve, store and slow down in winter.

Instead we are still going full throttle through all the seasons, barely stopping to notice the changes, maintaining the same schedule, having artificial lighting on 24/7 and putting the wretched clock back every year.

And some people love the dark and find it magical.

Winter and nn Winnie is so cute

whattodo2019 · 06/11/2019 20:42

I know a Winter Rose

DidntLikeRugbyAnyway · 06/11/2019 20:59

Winter is lovely and I know a couple.

I don’t like Rose as a middle name, too twee and unoriginal.

Heh1991 · 07/11/2019 22:30

I like it but choosing a non-traditional name will always inevitably raise eyebrows. I think just run with what you like. Winnie is a cute nickname and if you give her a traditional middle name she can always choose to go by that if, later on, she prefers to?

CherryBathBomb · 07/11/2019 22:38

Beautiful name!

PetraRabbit · 08/11/2019 22:58

I like it. I agree Winter Rose or Winter Grace kills the name with tweeness! You need to choose a middle name that's traditional, feminine and less trendy, to give Winter maximum impact and a bit of romantic mystery. I like:
Winter Catherine
Winter Veronica
Winter Elizabeth
Winter Vivien
Winter Margaret
Winter Gabrielle
Winter Liliana
Winter Natalia/Natalie (if she comes on Christmas time- maybe a bit much but why not?)
.....that kind of thing. And no, it's not too out there for a winter baby.

PeopleWhoRun · 08/11/2019 23:01

I haven't heard of Winter as a name before and I love it. It's a really lovely name for girl or boy.

BonBon411 · 09/11/2019 03:43

I like Wynter better, but however you choose to spell it, I think it is lovely.
I love Wynter Rose 🥀

NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy · 09/11/2019 03:47

It's one of my daughter's names.

Littlebittasunshine · 10/11/2019 11:23

Thank you for all your positive comments made me feel much more confident about using it. I think she'd be Winter Eloise :)) x

mistydayswampwitch · 10/11/2019 15:59

Winter Eloïse is beautiful OP!

Sparklysunflowers · 11/11/2019 07:19

I don't like the 'cold' associations of Winter. So not a name I'd choose but I don't think it's too out there.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 11/11/2019 07:49

Winter Eloise is stunning actually.
