What are people’s thoughts? Is it classic?

@Omashu oh no I’m starting to get a name for myself 🤣🙈

Glad not everyone loves it as much as me as I don’t want it getting too popular. I think if I’d just read the name in a list of names I probably wouldn’t have considered it but I’ve seen it used in everyday life I really love it. It has so many familliar sounds in it (willow, William, Ella) yet is so unusual in its own right.

Oh dear I’m off on one again aren’t I !! 🙈

IreneWinters · 03/11/2019 15:24

It makes me wonder where the rest of the name is. As a nickname for Wilhelmina it’s quite nice. I prefer Willow (well I would, it’s my dd’s middle name).

IreneWinters · 03/11/2019 15:26

Also, it sounds so similar to Willow (depending on accents, I suppose). She will always be correcting people.

NoSauce · 03/11/2019 15:41

It looks made up to me and yoonique. I know it’s not but it just looks it to me.

RandDandC · 03/11/2019 16:17

Love this name! Our neighbours had twins back in January and names one of them Willa, gorgeous name.

CaptainPovey · 03/11/2019 16:19

Hope your surname is not Clark(e)

MonChatEstMagnifique · 03/11/2019 16:37

I quite like it. There's a famous country singer who has two daughters called Willa and Ada.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 03/11/2019 16:44

No one says “Willy” about William when that literally has the sound “Willy” within the name!!

Actually they do. I know quite a few Williams who get teased with Willy, mainly at primary school.

Willa doesn't sound similar at all. So I wouldn't worry about that.

hairyturkey · 03/11/2019 16:49

So lovely

user1493494961 · 03/11/2019 16:50

Don't understand the love on here for Willa, not classic at all, probably the opposite.

MissHenty · 03/11/2019 16:59

I think of it as a classic because it’s a shortening of Wilhelmina

thedevilwithbarty · 03/11/2019 17:01

Sounds a bit...Stepford to my ear. 1950s twinset housewife.

Willow is much nicer

catsandkid · 03/11/2019 17:03

Willa? Do you pronounce it how it's read? Never heard of it... not a fan myself but each to their own!

NoFun21 · 03/11/2019 17:22

Willa Cather.
Very pretty name.

GoodGriefSunshine · 03/11/2019 17:30

Is it a name? Willa?

Omashu · 03/11/2019 18:42

@MissHenty I think it’s sweet! I’m the same way with a few names but they rarely get mentioned on here!

Omashu · 03/11/2019 18:44

Oh and OP I love the name Willa. I wouldn’t have been so sure if I saw it written first of all but I first heard it when I met a 20 year old Willa last year. She was a lovely, tall, beautiful girl and it really suited her 😍

TabbyMumz · 03/11/2019 18:45

Absolutely awful. Poor child will be bullied no end.

CaptainPovey · 03/11/2019 18:52

Be careful of initials

WC

PetraRabbit · 04/11/2019 11:42

It's the opposite of classic- very 2019/2020 and very trendy! It's a little bit hipster, and also used by parents who like Cora, Nora, Milo, Arlo etc.

Leopardprintboots · 04/11/2019 12:37

I ADORE the name Willa too

@PetraRabbit - I think for a name to be labelled “trendy” it has to “trend”. Willa is still extremely unusual. Less than 50 babies were named “Willa” last year. Its way out of the top 100 names - in fact it isn’t even in the top 800!

On the other hand, 1,715 babies were called Arlo last year (number 36 in the charts). 506 called Milo (number 110 in the charts)

Littledidsheknow · 04/11/2019 14:23

I think it's bloody awful. Seriously bad. It's not remotely classic and sounds like someone saying Willow in a lazy way.

And it does make me think of willy.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 04/11/2019 14:33

I don't like Willa (or Willy or William)!

horse4course · 04/11/2019 14:35

I like it. Also Etta.

QueefLatifah · 04/11/2019 14:37

Will a or won’t a.

Yes I know thats not how you say it, but still.

And willy . depending on accents could sound like wella too.

And sorry but Willa Cather just sounds like willy catheter
