Baby is due in five weeks, we're pretty set on a boys name but girls we can't pin down.

I was down to Hazel and Iris at one point but the other two have since come into play...

Thoughts? Are they all awful? Which is the best? We're in Scotland if that's in any way relevant and my two sons have very Scottish names.

Heather to me is in there with Lorraine, Yvonne, Janice, Brenda. Just totally outdated. I also don't see it as Scottish at all, that wouldn't have occurred to me. Just a British 1950s kind of name.

I do like Flora actually! I think I'm leaning away from the Hazel thing because of Hamish, it grates on me a bit.

I agree that heather might be a bit dated as all the ones I know are my age (late 30s) or older.

Hazel 100%

Youseethethingis · 30/10/2019 16:46

I’m in the west of Scotland. Knew a dog called Mirren. It sounds a lot like “midden” when called out. I wouldn’t.

FizzyGreenWater · 30/10/2019 17:03

Flora is lovely - retro charm.

stormsurfer · 30/10/2019 17:10

There are so many Scottish girls names that are due a comeback... Fiona, Rhona, Shona, Kirsty, Mhairi, Mairi, Flora, Iona, Ailsa, Roslyn, Catriona, Lynsey, Sheila, Cara...

FizzyGreenWater · 30/10/2019 17:14

And - more of a Northern Isles name really - but I also love Ingrid.

Jj2431 · 30/10/2019 17:38

Love Iris

duggeehug85 · 30/10/2019 19:32

What about Morven instead of Mirren? I love it.

Heather is also beautiful and due a revival. Do you like Lorna or Flora?

marmitecheesetoast · 30/10/2019 20:35

I love Hazel and Iris. Hazel is probably a little more unusual?

Twocoffees · 30/10/2019 20:41

How about Miriam?

marmitecheesetoast · 30/10/2019 20:42

Just read the full thread OP, agree Hazel and Hamish are probably too similar. Heather is lovely too, especially if it goes nicely with your surname Smile
I see you already have an Eilidh in the family - my dd is an Eilidh!

Yesivenamechanged11 · 30/10/2019 20:42

I like Hazel. Mitten sounds like Midden, Heather a bit too old fashioned IMO, Flora is a brand of margarine so she would get the mick taken out of her at school.
Like PP's suggestions of Catriona, Shona, Kirsty and Cara

Yesivenamechanged11 · 30/10/2019 20:43

Mirren not mitten, bloomin autocorrect

Astronica · 30/10/2019 22:14

I'm not so keen on Heather, and my favourites are Iris and Mirren.

Ifyoulikepinacolidas · 30/10/2019 22:57

I love Hazel!
