Nice or terrible?

I love it but wouldn't be so cruel as to call my child it.

Was my nick name as a kid.

Morado · 18/10/2019 09:13

Sweet for a newborn but can you imagine a teacher or a lawyer or a doctor called Tigerlily?

Yes, yes I can!

Candymay · 18/10/2019 09:13

I’ve always loved that name. I wouldn’t use it because Paula Yates did. But I loved it before that because of Peter Pan.

LittleLongDog · 18/10/2019 09:20

Yes.

Dyrne · 18/10/2019 09:32

I’d associate it with the massively racist portrayal of the “indyuns” in Peter Pan; and the massively racist casting of a white actress to play the part in Pan.

So, you know, just massively racist overtones in general.

imclaustrophobicdarren · 18/10/2019 11:53

@Dyrne you're likely to be the only person who thinks like that...

I love it and know one! She's 17 and gets full name or tiger or tigs. She's doesn't like Lilly as says it's so mainstream! And I'm sure she will go on to have a great career!

december20100 · 18/10/2019 12:34

Little bit odd for my taste but if you like it go for it

Dyrne · 18/10/2019 12:44

@imclaustrophobicdarren I realise that, and it’s a bit depressing tbh.

Who gives a shit about racism, eh?

Dyrne · 18/10/2019 12:46

If you think it’s a bit too mainstream you could also use the alternative name for the plant - the Ditch Lily?

MediocreOmens · 18/10/2019 12:47

I had the same thoughts @Dyrne. Interestingly there was a thread on here a while back about a poster wanting to send her daughter to world book day dressed as Tigerlily and she got flamed for the racist connotations.

AdalindMeisner · 18/10/2019 12:47

Peter Pan was the first thing that popped into my head - sorry!

Aprillygirl · 18/10/2019 12:58

If you're going to chose a whacky name at least make up your own version instead of nicking it off the Geldofs/Hutchences? Hmm

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/10/2019 13:02

Was they the dog in Rupert the Bear?

Shelvesoutofbooks · 18/10/2019 13:12

It's awful. Don't do it OP

imclaustrophobicdarren · 18/10/2019 13:29

Think I may need to watch Peter Pan 🤯

RainWoman19 · 18/10/2019 13:42

Love it!

Ihateedmundelephant · 18/10/2019 14:05

It’s kind of amazing? Which is something I’m really surprised to say! I love Peter Pan and watched it every day as a child so maybe this is influencing my decision but I secretly think Tigerlily is incredible. I’d never use it though, I’m nowhere near cool enough. Are you? I think you’d have to be pretty cool to be able to pull off naming your daughter this!

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 18/10/2019 15:08

It's not a serious name it's a cartoon name. I wouldnt.

HalfManHalfLabrador · 18/10/2019 15:09

I really like it

Ineedtochillthehellout · 18/10/2019 15:14

I love it ! Considered it 18 years ago for dd but bottled out.

LittleLongDog · 18/10/2019 17:43

@Aprillygirl or maybe she chose it for the plant or Peter Pan or just because she likes it?

Are we only allowed one of every name now?

user1493494961 · 18/10/2019 18:40

Dreadful. Change your name to Tigerlily if you like it so much.

LouiseLouisa87 · 18/10/2019 18:41

I LOVE it

LouiseLouisa87 · 18/10/2019 18:43

Yep. And funnily enough, people aren’t accepted onto degree programs based on their names....

BethanyGilbert · 18/10/2019 18:58

I love it. I used to teach one. They would shorten it to Tigs.
