I don’t think your names are boring. Louis actually isn’t very popular relativeky speaking. I love George and James. Such classics. There’ll be less George and James’ than Arlo or Hunter soon

bridgetreilly · 16/10/2019 21:23

Giles
Gus
Edgar
Edwin
Miles
Sebastian
Richard

Miljah · 16/10/2019 21:24

I love boring. If that, indeed, is what these names are. One might call them traditional.

I really dislike 'try hard', yooneek, 'out there' names. They say far more about the parents than they assist the child. That child is labelled.

Phillip can be anyone, Tyger-Rampage has fewer options. That won't cause ridicule.

RavenLG · 16/10/2019 21:26

Some might think boring, others will think classic or traditional. If you like them it’s fine.

Kbeeb1992 · 16/10/2019 21:32

Ermmm i dont think havin an unusual name is about the parents, yes there can be silly ones but naming my son otis was because me and my partner love mowtown and otis reading is our favourite. Its not trying to “ trt hard” its calling your child what ever you want because there yours and people should never judge a child on their name, some people sounding like katie hoppkins on here !

TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/10/2019 21:33

I don’t like Anthony or Paul, but the others are all nice. Strong classic names.

Your ds is never going to resent you for calling him James for example as opposed to something try hard or youneek.

Kbeeb1992 · 16/10/2019 21:37

Please stop saying try hard and youneek, why cant people have the freedom to name their own children whatever they want without being judged by other mams... jesus

Dangerousminds · 16/10/2019 21:46

@kbeeb1992 Otis isn’t really unusual though is it. When PP say try hard etc I doubt they are referring to names like Otis

Kbeeb1992 · 16/10/2019 21:49

Im just talking about my son im talking about referring to other names in a negative way like parents are trying to get attention from naming their child , its just annoys me , call them whatever you like , apart from chalmydia wich i know is an actual name in real life

VerbenaGirl · 16/10/2019 21:52

I like Louis

Lavenderblues · 16/10/2019 22:52

Phillip can be anyone, Tyger-Rampage has fewer options. That won't cause ridicule.

But there are lots of names between these two extremes! Why do people always defend popular/traditional/boring names by coming up with ridiculous made up names Hmm?

Leflic · 16/10/2019 23:10

Kbeeb1992 The freedom to call your child anything does say something about the parents though. They picked it for a reason.
Maybe people do get the reasoning behind it wrong or sterotype incorrect but that’s the risk you run when you chose a name.

DramaAlpaca · 16/10/2019 23:13

I like traditional, classic names so I don't think the list is boring.

My favourites are James, Philip & Louis.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 16/10/2019 23:22

Kbeeb1992 This is the name board, where people are upfront about how they feel about different styles of names.

You might not like it, but it’s not up to you to police other users’ language.

PandasMum · 16/10/2019 23:48

Louis, James & George are all lovely

Mrsmummy90 · 16/10/2019 23:50

James is my favourite boys name.

How about Myles?

Astronica · 17/10/2019 00:07

Other than Anthony and Paul which I don't like, I think the others are all good names. I certainly don't see Louis, George and Phillip as boring.
Miles/Myles
Milo
Edmund
Edgar
Rufus

Kbeeb1992 · 17/10/2019 01:00

That’s actually hilarious

071019DD · 17/10/2019 06:08

I get what you mean by boring for some of your list but I'd call them more classic than boring. LOVE LOVE LOVE Louis (OH vetoed) , it's not boring at all. And really like James too. Good luck OP!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 17/10/2019 06:19

I like Anthony, not heard of a baby Anthony for ages!

I prefer Lewis to Louie.

James is nice but don't like Jim.

Prefer Miles to Giles.

Anothernotherone · 17/10/2019 06:36

Often the "boring" names are the unusual ones - as someone else said, there are far more likely to be two Hunters, Albies or Arlos in a primary school class in some parts of the UK than two James'. George is massively popular I think and Louis was a while ago, but your other names aren't. Though as someone said Paul is incredibly popular in Germany (there are three Paul's out of 12 boys in my 12 year old's class - we live in Germany.)

The "unique" names that trend become massively dated though, classic names obviously don't. You never know which name will trend - I know someone with an 8 year old Arlo and when she chose the name I'd never heard it, now it's really common.

Lavenderblues · 17/10/2019 07:37

The only boring as in overused name is George

Anthony and Philip are lovely and not common these days

missmouse101 · 17/10/2019 07:45

James is nice. Or Adam? Or Myles?

CharitySchmarity · 17/10/2019 09:39

Love James, George and Philip (with one L!) The others are not my favourites but I like rather than dislike them. I like this sort of traditional, almost timeless names much better than trendy or surnamey names.

crustycrab · 17/10/2019 09:41

James
