Ariah?

Do you say it like Aria (GOT character), A-rye-ah, or A-ree-ah?

I would pronounce:

Ariah - ah-RYE-uh (like Mariah Carey)
Arya - eye-uh (like GoT)
Aria - AH-ree-uh (like the musical term)

RebeccaCloud9 · 02/10/2019 06:44

@Clettercletterthatsbetter GoT is Are Ya rather than Eye Ya

Mummybares · 02/10/2019 06:51

Ah rah yah

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 02/10/2019 06:53

@RebeccaCloud9 yes, I meant that - when I say them eye-uh and are-ya sound the same!

My cousin has an Aariah which she pronounces “arry-ah”

SaharaSunset · 02/10/2019 13:07

Thanks everyone.

It's pronounced the same as Mariah without the M but many people are saying it the same as you would Aria and Areeya.

Would the pronunciation be clearer is the spelling was different? Or would spelling it Aryah? Or is that too "youneeq"...

Aryah would be too close to Aryan for me.

AlliKaneErikson · 03/10/2019 05:59

I’ve only ever heard it pronounced like the musical term, AH-ree-ah.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2019 17:49

What culture does it come from?

FartnissEverbeans · 03/10/2019 19:15

I’d pronounce it ah-RYE-ah.

Aryah I’d pronounce ar-yah.

It’s a nice name

SaharaSunset · 03/10/2019 21:41

I love it but don't want the confusion with pronouncing it like Aria, which is my biggest worry.

@BertrandRussell according to most internet searches it's Hebrew, but other different websites say different things. An American talk show host named her daughter it - which is where I heard the name.
