Name for baby girl HELP!

blue5467 · 30/09/2019 22:42

I'm due soon and am completely at a loss for a name for my baby girl. I already have a Clara... please help me narrow these down! Middle name will be Rowan

Theodora - my favourite but think it sounds a bit flouncy?! Love Thea and Teddy as nicknames but DH isn't fussed by the "Dora" part and neither of us like Dorothea.

Matilda - quite like this but don't like Tilly as a NN

Cora - too similar to Clara????

Juliet - like this but not the "Jules" nickname

Eliza - DH's favourite. I don't mind it but I don't love it and I wonder if it feels too popular/ faddy and won't age well??

Any suggestions/ opinions welcome!!

Not keen on Cora and v. similar to Clara. Love the other names, you could have Mattie or Tilda as shortenings or Ettie for Juliet. Eliza is a classic, I don't see it as 'faddy', I think it's timeless.

Also, you could have Thea as a 'standalone'.

Lettucecrunch · 30/09/2019 23:00

Not keen on Theodora but just Thea is lovely.
Cora is nice but def too similar.
Don’t like Matilda.
Juliet is v pretty, don’t have to shorten it!
Eliza is lovely

I like Matilda (Mattie or Tilda), Juliet (nn could be Ettie, Etta or Jet) or Eliza.

MissHenty · 30/09/2019 23:08

I really love the name Eliza and Matilda

If not

How about Edith?

Maggie (Margaret)? Delilah?

123Dancewithme · 30/09/2019 23:08

You could have Theda instead of Theodora? Then you wouldn’t have the Dora part.

TkmaxxTwirly · 30/09/2019 23:10

I do like Eliza.
Liza is nice also.
Or Elise.

I don't think Jules is inevitable. Juliet is lovely.

arethereanyleftatall · 30/09/2019 23:11

I'd just go Thea

Eliza is very much the nicest of your ideas, and goes well with Clara. It's currently at 0.18% so really not that common!

Edith is also lovely.

Astronica · 01/10/2019 07:23

Cora is out. I love all the others on your list, but if you're not keen on Tilly then cross Matilda off. I don't think Eliza is faddy at all - quite popular at the moment but that's a different thing. It's a stong traditional name I think. Juliet doesn't need shortening.

Equatoria · 01/10/2019 08:01

I like Juliet best.

Knew Cora wasn't really an option! This is really helpful! Thanks everyone! Any more suggestions more than welcome!

Another vote for Thea as a standalone. Or Juliet with no shortening. Both are lovely and would sit well with Clara.

IckleBear · 02/10/2019 13:49

Thea!!

ladycarlotta · 02/10/2019 21:34

I also have a Clara (and love Cora - and Clary, and Cary... sigh)

We also considered Ilse/Ilsa for her. There was another on the shortlist but I can't even remember what it was so it can't have been that good! If we have another girl I like Willa, Ruby, Harriet, Maria, Annie and Elspeth.

Inlovewitharagorn · 03/10/2019 23:56

Another vote for Thea as a stand alone. I love it.
I also knew a Theoni which is unusual but quite sweet.
I like Eliza though. I think it's every bit as stylish and classic as Clara.
