Running out of ideas for DD2...help!

Erismorn · 21/09/2019 18:32

DH and I are trying to come up with a short list for DD2 but are struggling to come up with more names before we start cutting them down. I'd appreciate people's thoughts on what we have so far as well as any names you would add.

We want something strong and uncommon. DD1 is Meredith, to give an idea of the sort of thing we like.

So far we have:

Rosalind
Marla
Gretchen
Winona
Thora
Greta
Isadora
Ramona
Ariadne

Oh I love Meredith. Great choice

Rosalind - love it and think it's a great choice to go with Meredith
Marla - it's OK, not keen on same initials for siblings. Darla is pretty, do you like that?
Gretchen - I really like it, it was on my long list too. Just not sure I'd want to be called Gretchen
Winona - not a fan, though love Winnie as a nickname. Winifred?
Thora - not a fan. Flora? Thea? Athena?
Greta - love it
Isadora - love it
Ramona - not a fan
Ariadne - find it a bit Meh

My top 3 would be...
Meredith and Isadora
Meredith and Rosalind
Meredith and Greta

What about Marley instead of Marla?

Ramona is my fav from your list.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/09/2019 19:39

Meredith and Gretchen are a perfect fit. They have the same vibe to them and same number of letters.
I think if you use Ariadne. Meredith might feel a bit short changed.

Astrid was always on my list and I love Meredith. I've a feeling Greta might become very popular Grin I'm 40 now, so it's been a while since someone checked whether my name gelled nicely with that of my sister 😁

Erismorn · 21/09/2019 20:11

Some great suggestions here, thanks. I love Winifred but it was DH's Nan's name and he doesn't want to reuse it. We both love Beatrix but I can't remember why it's not in the list. Might have to revisit it! Astrid was on the list but was deemed too popular (we are a bit ridiculous about popularity, both having grown up being called by our surnames).

The more I say Ariadne the less I like it - I have a feeling she'd spend a lifetime having to either spell it out or re-say it.

@nowlook I have a funny feeling Greta will get more popular too.

Agatha is going on the list!

@Awwlookatmybabyspider Gretchen is my favourite

Rosalind is lovely but I'm not sure it goes with Meredith. It's too pretty, whereas Meredith is strong.

Beatrix goes, very well, and I don't think it's popular. Agatha & Greta go well too.

I'm not fond of the rest of your list, and particularly dislike Gretchen - I cant get past the 'retch' sound in it (sorry)

TempsPerdu · 21/09/2019 21:06

DD is a Greta. We were aiming for strong and uncommon too and we’re very happy with our choice - but yes, also have a hunch it may get more popular!

First thought for another suggestion was Frieda/Frida, which has a similar vibe to some of your choices. Or Ingrid?

Joeybee · 21/09/2019 21:09

Love Ariadne. Similar names to that I also like are Annabelle, Arabella and Araminta. I think any of those names would go really well with Meredith too.

aibutohavethisusername · 21/09/2019 21:15

Greata

aibutohavethisusername · 21/09/2019 21:16

Sorry Greta

user1493494961 · 21/09/2019 22:11

Only like Isadora.

Loveislandaddict · 21/09/2019 22:22

Not keen on Marla. How about Merle (1930/40s film actress Merle Oberon).

Paulette - saw this in another film today..

Suggestions:
Rowena
Louisa
Elouise
Maria
Katerina
Serephina
Saffron
Tabitha
Antonia

CatteStreet · 21/09/2019 22:31

Isadora is by far my favourite. Maybe Isolde/Isolda as an alternative? Rosalind is my second favourite. The others don't really appeal to me. Gretchen has fallen completely out of use in its country of origin. It's actually a diminutive of Margarete (as is Greta, I believe).

How about Damaris?

Rainbowqueeen · 21/09/2019 22:39

Lindsay
Brooke
Cara
Lara
Libby

Bored198333 · 21/09/2019 22:45

Tabitha
Delilah
Lucinder
Arabella
Celeste
Francesca
Harriet
India
Iris
Robyn

MissBPotter · 21/09/2019 22:48

The only one that goes in my opinion is Rosalind. Not a fan of any of the others and think they are much less nice than Meredith.

I think you could possibly add

Agnes
Norah
Ada
June
Pearl
Constance
Verity

Atlasta · 21/09/2019 22:48

First thought without reading down your list was Greta.
I really like it.

Ridingthecrestofawave · 21/09/2019 22:52

Rosalind my favourite by a mile..
Like Beatrice more than Beatrix.
Also love Antoinette and think it would go well with Meredith.

Redwinestillfine · 21/09/2019 22:54

I love Ramona. Others to consider are Thalia, Caillen, Alish, Moira....

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 21/09/2019 22:56

Rosalind or Marla are different & lovely.
I kind of like Gretchen but it also makes me think of the word retching which isn’t pleasant but if you can get past that...
