Which spelling do you prefer for these two names and which do you prefer in general

Catherine / Katherine / Katharine / Kathryn

Madeleine / Madelyn or Madeline with the different pronunciation for Madeline

Katharine & Katherine followed closely by Catherine for me

FizzyGreenWater · 22/09/2019 19:06

Catherine, Madeleine, and yes to Kitty short for Catherine.

HeronLanyon · 22/09/2019 19:10

I add my vote to the clamour for Catherine (the c is prettier and it’s a strong name anyway - can carry a little pretty).
Also Madeleine - I personally feel
All other spellings are not ‘right’. Why mess around with a beautiful name ?
Good choices op amongst my fave ever.

It's a pain if the nickname (Kitty) has a different initial to full name (Catherine).

Much easier if she's K. Surname.

HeadintheiClouds · 22/09/2019 20:28

Why would it be a pain?! What nonsense.

NationMcKinley · 22/09/2019 20:34

Katharine and Madeleine

Catherine and Madeleine
Both beautiful names

I would go for Katharine and Madeleine.
I prefer Catherine but Catherine Mouse has the initials CM but Kitty Mouse is KM.
Not a huge problem, but will result in Confused.

I've seen this at work with Mandy (not Amanda) having mail for Ms A Surname, Tony (Anthony) Surname's initials on minutes being AS not TS, Kate (Catherine) Surname being CS on minutes etc.

Exactly. It can be confusing when using initials or even when naming sports kit ( C Surname or K Surname?)

Derbee · 23/09/2019 00:12

Catherine is prettier. But if you know she’ll be a Kitty, I’d go with Katherine. Purely due to initials in school belongings etc.

Bouncingbelle · 23/09/2019 00:15

Katherine
Madeleine

MikeUniformMike · 23/09/2019 08:56

I don't like the spelling Cate, but as you are looking at Kitty as a known as name it doesn't apply.

Kitty could be short for Christina or Christabel.

IckleBear · 23/09/2019 09:15

Catherine

Madeleine by a million miles.
