Grace - nice but a bit meh
Caroline - love it, my favourite on your list
Elizabeth - lovely and classic
Margot - dreadful, I really don't get why it's suddenly so popular
Penelope - like it, love Penny as a shortening
Ophelia - not keen
Sophie - nice but a bit meh

diddlediddle · 14/09/2019 20:50

Grace - dull
Caroline - like it. Regal and classic but not popular
Elizabeth - fine
Margot - a bit popular, it's alright
Penelope - cool name
Ophelia - like it
Sophie - unbearably boring

Penelope, Caroline, Ophelia are my favourites

elsieotter · 14/09/2019 20:55

Penelope or Allegra x

Crimsonpetalandthewhite · 14/09/2019 21:31

Love Ophelia and Penelope. Both beautiful.

Astronica · 15/09/2019 06:15

The only name I dislike on your 2 lists is Constance. Hard to narrow down but my favourites are (not in any order):
Penelope
Sophie
Alice
Rose
Genevieve

Ayuree · 15/09/2019 06:43

My top pick is Genevieve

diddlediddle · 15/09/2019 09:49

Charlotte - dull
Cosima - awful
Alice - nice
Allegra - meh
Rose - meh
Josephine - very nice
Constance - ok, having a revival so maybe a bit trendy
Genevieve - nice

Alice, Josephine, Genevieve

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 15/09/2019 09:52

Grace - VV overdone
Caroline - lovely
Elizabeth - don't like but the amazing nicknames make up for the boring full name
Margot - love
Penelope - like
Ophelia - very pretty
Sophie - terribly dull

KronksSpinachPuffs · 15/09/2019 16:38

I like Ophelia Sophie and Penelope, but I dont think I'd personally be brave enough to use Ophelia in real life.

How about Aurelia or Sophia? Similar to your names so you might like them.

123Dancewithme · 16/09/2019 22:39

Caroline would be lovely.

MrsBertBibby · 17/09/2019 06:59

Grace Nice but very overused
Caroline handsome name
Elizabeth great
Margot ghastly
Penelope fab name
Ophelia awful
Sophie loathe, overused
Charlotte- dull.
Cosima - dreadful
Alice - prissy and smug
Allegra - not great
Rose - dull. Rosa much better
Josephine- not keen but ok
Constance - pretty good.
Genevieve- pretty good, but fussy.

Lilyannarose · 17/09/2019 10:53

Grace - I don't think you can go wrong with Grace. Nothing to dislike about it. I like Gracie too.

Caroline - I actually really like this and would love to see it make a come-back. I know one shortened to Carrie and one to Callie which are both pretty.

Elizabeth - Another classic that never really seems to go out of favour. So many options for shortenings too. I like Libby and Betsy.

Margot - I'm not over keen, but it's one of those names that might grow on me.

Penelope - I really like. Would shorten to Nelly rather than Penny but that's just personal choice.

Ophelia - Very pretty. I know two little ones with this name.

Sophie - One of my all times favourites. This was always on my short list along with Sophia.

Charlotte - Timeless classic. I love Lottie.

Cosima - Not sure about this one.

Alice - Pretty and classic. One of my daughter's middle names after her great grandma.

Allegra - Makes me think of a car from the 1980's with a similar sounding name.

Rose - Pretty, but prefer Rosie or Rosa. I also like Rosanna or Rosalie.

Josephine - I like Josie as an independent name, but pronounced with an "s" sound in the middle and not rhyming with Rosie.

Constance - I don't like, but love Connie!!!

Genevieve - Pretty and unusual but not too out there. I've never met one.

Fivebeanchilli · 17/09/2019 11:11

Grace - I like this but know so many I find it boring
Caroline - I love this but I don't know any younger than about 40. It's a lovely classic name though
Elizabeth - nice. I prefer Elspeth or Eliza.
Margot - I predict this is going to be a huge riser this year. I've heard of loads of babies with this name.
Penelope - I'm not a fan but I don't know why. It's a good classic name.
Ophelia - nice enough. The "I feel ya" thing puts me off
Sophie - nice enough name but so popular that it's become very dull
Charlotte- I love Charlotte. It's popular though so there may well be lots around but I think it's one of the nicest of the classics
Cosima - don't like
Alice - this is another of the great classics. I like it
Allegra - I want to like it because it should be pretty and strong. But it sounds a bit ugly to me.
Rose - I really like Rose as a first name. So boring as a middle name but cute for first name.
Josephine- ok
Constance - I love this. I would have chosen this but it sounds awful with my surname.
Genevieve- another one I want to like but struggle with. I prefer the French pronunciation. I think one of the reasons I'm not keen on the English one is that Jenny is so 70s and Eve so boring...

FizzyGreenWater · 17/09/2019 16:52

Sophie Margot is lovely

MissHenty · 17/09/2019 17:17

@dillytilly OP has this helped the decision at all

Nonameyet1 · 17/09/2019 17:54

Grace - nice
Caroline - no
Elizabeth - love it
Margot - can be ok
Penelope - love Penny
Ophelia - ok
Sophie - good classic but for me it’s boring
Charlotte - like
Cosima - ?
Alice - ok
Allegra - no
Rose - prefer Rosa
Josephine - good like Joss as nn
Constance - not so much
Genevieve - like

Malyshek · 18/09/2019 08:55

Grace - Don't like it. In French it sounds a bit like "fat" so that doesn't help :p

Caroline - okay but common

Elizabeth - Mostly okay. Not extraordinary but okay.

Margot - How do you pronounce it ? I like it but not if you pronounce the "t" at the end (supposed to be silent I think). Prefer spelling Margaux.

Penelope - Don't like it. I don't like the sound, it's common and boring, and, dunno, makes me think of a snotty girl. Very subjective opinion though so don't let me put you off if you like it !

Ophelia - Okay, I guess. I prefer Olivia though.

Sophie - Fine but common. Prefer Sophia.

Charlotte - Not bad

Cosima - a bit too "out there" for my taste

Alice - boring...

Allegra - Ugh. Means "joyful" in italian I think, what if she turns out to not be joyful all the time ? Cue in the jokes...

Rose - not keen on flower names. Though I kind of like Rosetta.

Josephine - Like it. Maybe a little because of the Dragon Age character :) Or maybe because of the Empress. Lots of possible nicknames, works for all ages.

Constance - Not keen on virtue names.

Genevieve - Nooooo hate this one. Sounds like an old people's name to me. I'd rather Guinevere, frankly.

Jellycat00 · 21/09/2019 10:28

Caroline or Elizabeth

Loveislandaddict · 21/09/2019 12:25

Have you considered Gracie rather than Grace? A nice alternative.

From your original list, love Penelope and Elizabeth.

If you like Rose, have you considered Rose names, such as Rosemary, Rosalind, or Rosamund? Classic, but underused.

NoSauce · 21/09/2019 15:42

Grace - dull
Caroline - dated
Elizabeth - lovely
Margot - ok
Penelope - nice
Ophelia - not keen
Sophie - prefer Sophia
