What do you think of Rupert and Jasper for a boy?
Heard both recently and they sounded different but also feel both fit well with older brother Noah.
Thanks.

Also love Guy and Hugo.

AverageMummy · 03/09/2019 19:28

Caspian is also lovely

bananabunch119 · 03/09/2019 19:32

I have a Jasper so I love the name!

Casper is a friendly ghost and Rupert is a bear!

mintich · 03/09/2019 19:36

Love Jasper and Caspian, also love Crispin

vavavoomdeboom · 03/09/2019 19:43

So posh. Are you posh?

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/09/2019 19:46

Jasper was what I would have named DD.
Rupert was vetoed by OH for DS but is now going to be my nephews name.
Also like Caspian!
I think Rupert goes best with Noah, so I will pick that (Caspar would go well too) but all names are good to me!! Great taste OP.

Rupert and Jasper lovely and not at all wacky or out there. Really surprised by some of the responses here. Jasper or Rupert would fit right in with the type of names at our schools and playgroups. Normal nice names

noahsmum2016 · 03/09/2019 20:51

Wow thank you all Smile
Think I'm slightly more drawn to Rupert.
Noah and Rupert seem to have a nice ring when you say them together.

I love both Rupert and Jasper. Rupert is my favourite though, and I think it sounds great next to Noah.

diddlediddle · 04/09/2019 02:11

They both seem like quite wet names to me. I know MN hates that term but I can't think of a better way of describing it! Jasper is better if I really had to pick. Rupert is just awful!

MissHenty · 04/09/2019 10:15

@noahsmum2016 I think you’ve made a great choice. Still have occasional pants of regret that I didn’t pick Rupert for my son. I only know one Rupert who’s about 10 and he’s a very cool little boy. Really suits his name

spiderlight · 04/09/2019 10:22

The little Noah I know has a brother called Reuben, which I prefer to Rupert.

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2019 10:25

I know both - both adults and children. They are both posh. If you are not posh I think those two names in particular can be jarring or really just don’t fit or seem solely aspirational etc - it’s crazy to think this way but there you are - names signify so much still.
I prefer jasper.

That's such a narrow minded view! People become their name, whatever it is and wherever they're from.

I know Ruperts and Jaspers from all walks of life and I certainly don't think any name should be 'reserved' for any 'class' (whatever that means anyway Hmm).

By encouraging 'normal' people to avoid these names, you're only reinforcing these ridiculous stereotypes!

Kenworthington · 04/09/2019 13:43

I have a 16 yr old jasper and he’s pretty frigging cool. It’s a name that could suit posh or not imo. Rupert is def posh territory. I love both but obv jasper is my fave!

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2019 13:53

pinks I acknowledged that. I agree !

WhyBirdStop · 04/09/2019 15:37

I have a Jasper, I didn't know the wasp connotation before he was born but it doesn't put me off. DH has a game he now plays with him swooping him around in the air making buzzing sounds (like a wasp), baby thinks it's hilarious. We've had positive feedback all round. I'm not keen on Rupert and would probably go with Rory instead.

Tattyjet · 05/09/2019 21:02

Jasper definitely

whattodo2019 · 05/09/2019 21:11

I prefer Rufus and Jasper

BlueberryPoppy123 · 08/09/2019 18:50

Must say I absolutely adore the name Rupert. I desperately want that but my OH is dead set against it. It honestly breaks my heart that I'll never get to use it.

Not as keen on Jasper it got a bit common around the twilight years and just associate with some rotten children I know that's all.
