Our baby boy was born early a few days ago and is still nameless.

Names we are considering:

Nathan
Edward
Samuel
Harry

Nathan is probably our favourite at the minute but we've been told it sounds a bit "rough" which was off putting and DH doesn't like Nathaniel or Jonathan as alternatives so any feedback is much appreciated!

Nathan is one of my favourite boys names!

Who cares what other people think?!

Not keen on Nathan, agree different vibe to Nathaniel. Edward and Samuel are lovely. Does he look like a Samuel? Congratulations!

WinterHare · 24/08/2019 22:05

Congratulations ThanksI like all the names except Nathan (had no idea it was considered rough).

I'd choose Harry if you can't see him as Edward (Teddy is fab though!)

Then Sam.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 24/08/2019 22:13

Another one for Edward here. So many nn options, Ted/Teddy are lovely.

I've only known one little boy called Edward and he was lovely.

Theo is nice too. Not many where I am and quite a classic name.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 24/08/2019 22:15

Samuel is my second fave of your names but he may end up in a class with a couple of others, same with Harry though.

diddlediddle · 24/08/2019 22:18

Nathan is a bit rough, sorry. Shame you can't have Nathaniel.

Edward or Samuel are best. Edward would be my choice.

Congratulations OP Smile
I have a 12 year old Samuel so I'm a bit biased. Everyone including teachers have called him Sam (his choice) from about 9 years old which makes me a bit sad but at least I can save his full name for when he's really badly behaved (a lot of the time) Grin
I also love Nathan as a name and ran that by my OH but it was vetoed sadly as he knew a Nathan that he didn't like.
I think all the names you are considering are great names OP - can I just also suggest Saul as well though. I love this name but couldn't use it as it is a ex partners name.

Nathan is one of the Jackson type names to my ears but you’ll never find a name everyone loves
Maybe Edward feels very grown up on a newborn- try playing around with Ed or my favourite: Ned
Samuel is cute

Pol16 · 25/08/2019 06:20

I’m a teacher and sadly, most of the Nathans I have taught have been quite ‘challenging’. Therefore I find it difficult to like this name. I love all your other choices, particularly Edward which can be abbreviated to Ted, or Teddy when he’s a baby or Ed.

Sleephead1 · 25/08/2019 06:57

I prefer Nathaniel aswell over Nathan. I like Edward we know one nickname Eddie he is lovely. I also like Samuel and like the nickname Sam. I think Harey is a bit popular but still a nice name My persi al favourite would be Edward or Samuel

PreschoolPlease · 25/08/2019 07:05

Congratulations! My favourite is Edward, then maybe Henry rather than Harry.

Other ideas:
Gregory
Miles
Alistair
Elliott
Benjamin
Joshua
Thomas
William
Patrick
Max

Grufallosfriends · 25/08/2019 07:14

Samuel, Edward and Harry are very popular and widely used already.

Nathan is more interesting, or how about
Reuben
Quentin
Tristan

ThighThighOfthigh · 25/08/2019 07:30

Any of them would be great OP

What about Harold as an alternative to Harry? I also like Arthur.
