Almost at the end of my pregnancy and DH and I couldn’t agree on any names so we decided to ask DC and DSC to give us two names for their new sister each and we picked our favourite of the two names they each gave us which are:

Coco
Hermione
Esme
Eva
Cleo
Margot

So can you critique that list and say what you like/dislike about each name! Thank you Smile

I like Marlow and Cora. neither are on your list though, sorry

DramaAlpaca · 24/08/2019 20:23

I'd pick Cleo.

MiaNG · 24/08/2019 20:24

Esme is lovely and I also like Margot perhaps as a middle name?

georgialondon · 24/08/2019 20:25

Eva

Then Esme

Greyhound22 · 24/08/2019 20:25

I like all of them but I think Eva is quite popular at the mo.

I love Hermione - I did before HP.

Gigia · 24/08/2019 20:25

I would pick either Eva or Cleo

thebakerwithboobs · 24/08/2019 20:36

All lovely. Eva will get lost in all the Eves and Evies and I prefer Coco as a nickname. All great names though-I am also going to throw Claudia into the mix!

LollyBmummy3 · 24/08/2019 20:38

Cleo is cute!💙

Chillisauceboss · 24/08/2019 20:42

Eva Cleo and Margot are all hugely hugely popular (London based) so not sure if that will bother you? I know handfuls of each in the baby groups I attend over the last 18 months

The other three names are just as nice and less popular currently :)

Colourfulest · 24/08/2019 20:42

Cleo!

user1471449295 · 24/08/2019 20:45

Cleo or Eva.

Coco sounds stripper like, Hermione is just Harry Potter to me and I just plain don’t like Margot

pilotedgrey · 24/08/2019 20:45

@Chillisauceboss London based also but have teenagers and so do all my friends so I don’t know too many babies Grin

I knew Margot is much more popular than it was when DDs were born throughout the ‘00 but didn’t know Cleo was that popular. DD1 has a friend called Cleo who’s 16 but we don’t know any others Blush Might need to reassess

I love Cleo. I've only ever met 2 as well.

I also like Esme and Eva but agree they are more popular.

But you could have

Cleo Esme

Or Cleo Eva

Personally I'd go for Cleo Eve

PointlessUsername · 24/08/2019 20:48

Coco
Hermione
Esme
I like. The others just not keen on.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 24/08/2019 21:07

Coco - reminds me of chocolate. Very current but might sound odd in a few years.
Hermione - they've been reading Harry Potter
Esme - quite like it, it's pretty although slightly weak for my liking. 2nd choice from list
Eva - quite like it, 1st choice from list although a bit short for my liking.
Cleo - not really a name IMO
Margot - sounds a bit like maggot

Chillisauceboss · 24/08/2019 21:42

@pilotedgrey yes they are such lovey names but wanted to warn you if popularity was something you were considering! I was surprised to see so many replications in baby groups! I think Hermione is lovely and could have lots of play in terms of nicknames :)

Astronica · 26/08/2019 06:04

A pretty good list considering the innovative way to come up with it! All good usable names. I know of 2 teenagers called Coco (neither is short for anything). However it would only suit a quirky person I think. Eva is smart but there are too many similar names. Cleo and Hermione are my favourites.

WildCherryBlossom · 26/08/2019 06:36

Your DC and DSC did well. If mine were in charge of naming your baby it would be Anakin Rainbow Horse Angel.

I think you're right about Eva being mixed up with all the Evie, Ava etc. Hermione is beautiful but sadly too associated with Harry Potter for me. Personally love Coco but I know some people think it's nicknamey. I love Margot. I would probably choose Cleo from your list though.

Jellycat00 · 26/08/2019 08:37

Coco - i really dislike this sorry!! It just sounds made up! And it would be an awful name to have as an adult imo!
Hermione - pretty
Esme - pretty but popular
Eva - pretty, but i agree about it being lost in the Evie's/Eve's/Evelyn's etc
Cleo - i don't like this sorry, it sounds unfinished to me
Margot - nice.

Other names you might like...
Freya
Sienna
Leah
Lola
Polly
Leonora
Marissa
Phoebe
Lara
Maeve
Meredith
Adeline

IckleBear · 26/08/2019 08:45

Definitely Cleo

strawberrypenguin · 26/08/2019 08:54

Hermione or Margot would be my picks from those.

AverageAvenger · 26/08/2019 09:47

Cleo definitely!

starkid · 26/08/2019 10:06

I like Cleo and don't know any :)

BoomZahramay · 26/08/2019 10:11

Cleo of those. It's lovely.

Coco is a nice nn but never on its own.
Eva is gorgeous but perhaps over popular.

The rest are ugly.

Yeahnahyeah1 · 26/08/2019 10:17

Coco - horrid. Brings to mind an ageing porn star living in LA
Hermione - pretty, very Harry Potter
Esme - overused
Eva - pretty but overused
Cleo - I really like cleo actually. Like Chloe but nicer
Margot - also pretty. Also a bit more unusual
