Jessie (for a girl)?

Hypothetical name planning for hypothetical dc3.

I like Jessica. However surname starts with Ca. Dc1 has a known shortened version of a longer name (think Kate rather than Katherine) so Jessie instead of Jessica wouldn't seem odd next to it.

I think I'd go for Jess & use Jessie as the diminutive. Tess is fine as a standalone name, so Jess would be too.

If you use Jessie and then a surname which begins with ca won't it sound like the ca goes with the first name instead.
Jessie Cavanagh
Jessica Vanagh

Maybe cavanagh isn't the best example, but you know what I mean, lol

Jessie is a lovely girls name! Ideally short for Jessica.

Grufallosfriends · 24/08/2019 08:03

But lovely on its own too!

Jessie is nice on its own.

In the late C19th and early C20th, it was a common stand-alone name, or sometimes a nickname for Jean or Joanne. Its use as a diminutive for Jessica only started when Jessica became a common name in the late C20th.

So if you like Jessie, it's perfectly traditional as a stand-alone name.

That said, I think Jessie Cavendish or Jessica Cavendish (for example) sound equally fine to me.

We gave our Dd the middle name of Jessica after Dh grandmother who was called Jessie
Turns out the her name was Jessie not Jessica🤦‍♀️

AverageMummy · 24/08/2019 10:36

I think that makes it worse not better
Jessie Cameron is never going to be understood on the phone etc

One of my favourite songs is Jesse by Carly Simon.
It's about James Taylor ( I think)

Jessie Buckley is one of the up and coming actors ( female) named by Vanity Fair this month.
If you love it, use it.
