Girls name list

Sleepnplay · 22/08/2019 20:25

We have found out that we're having a girl and have started to put a short(ish) list together of names. When I was pregnant with DS we liked loads of girls names but have gone off quite a few and are finding it tricker than expected! Would love to get some opinions on these names. Suggestions also welcome Smile

Matilda
Ferne
Rowan
Felicity
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby)
Nina
Iona
Beatrix
Anya
Harriet

Surname is Lee (so no Belle etc!)

Thanks Smile

While some of the things mentioned don't bother me, some of the comments have reinforced things I have said to DH previously. Ferne being too short with surname (and I hadn't considered the Hugh FW thing at all but now it's all I hear!). Also the potential for Bea Lee with Beatrix - we said we'd go with Trix/Trixie as a nickname early on but it's obviously out of our control as she gets older. I hadn't heard Anya Lee as annually but yes I do see that now too.

So thanks for your comments, they're helpful!

Matilda - Don’t care much for this name.
Ferne Lee - Sounds like a hotel or care home “Fernlea”
Rowan Lee - Same as above
Felicity Lee - I don’t think it works with your surname.
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - Autumn Lee also sounds like a hotel/rest home “Autumn Leaves”
Nina - Nice.
Iona - Love it.
Beatrix - Would prefer Beatrice but it’s a lovely name and flows well with the surname.
Anya - Really like this.
Harriet - This is ok too.

Matilda - Love the name but most of the shortenings end in "ly" which would sound awful with Lee
Ferne - I don't like it with Lee
Rowan Lee - this is a boys name to me so no
Felicity Lee - I also think too many "ee" sounds when put with Lee
Autumn (won't be an autumn baby) - Autumn Leaves
Nina - Not for me
Iona - Ok
Beatrix - Ok
Anya - I hear Annually too.
Harriet - I really like this.

I love pp suggestion of Tabitha, and also like Penelope/Penny, Iris, Philippa, Jessica or Rebecca with your surname.

Given your last name, I think longer names would be better.

Iona Lee and Nina Lee just dont sound right. Felicity Lee is no good because of the repeated "ee" sounds.

I think Matilda, Beatrix or Harriet are your best ones.
