I know Sophie is a longtime popular name, but just how many Sophie's do you know as babies/toddlers?
I want a name which won't lead to any pronunciation or spelling errors, but also I don't want it too common in school...

I don't know any little Sophie's but have taught tonnes of Sophia's and Sofia's!

icecreamsundae32 · 22/08/2019 18:59

Actually sorry I did have a Sophie in my class 6 years ago but she'd be 11 now!

DamnitCharlie · 22/08/2019 19:00

Love the name Sophie, there was a 'baby Sophie' doll in B and M the other day though so that might be a sign it's getting more popular at the moment.

ShoutyQueen · 22/08/2019 19:00

Sophie I know turned 6 last Tuesday. Absolutely lovely, beautiful girl and a name. Go for it!

soundsystem · 22/08/2019 19:02

I know quite a few Sophia's but no Sophie's.

AverageMummy · 22/08/2019 19:20

I don’t know any. It was given to 0.3% of babies last year if that helps.

lucylouis · 22/08/2019 19:27

Lately all I hear are Sophia's. I like Sophie more

BayandBlonde · 22/08/2019 19:33

Sophie is a nice classic name.

After all you could of suggested McSophie. Adding Mc seems to be the current trend Confused

Frith2013 · 22/08/2019 19:58

@BayandBlonde or hyphenate it to make sure you can get a Margot in there. Sophie-Margot Hmm

MamaFlintstone · 22/08/2019 19:59

I know a 1 year old and a 2 year old Sophie. It is a pretty name though.

LarkDescending · 22/08/2019 20:00

Lovely name. The ones I know are between 15 and 50, none younger.

PinkFlowerFairy · 22/08/2019 20:00

I think there's been a lot of Sophia's over the last few years but ita a hit faddy and will date a child to this period. Sophie has been a classic for ages.

NannyR · 22/08/2019 20:04

I know one two year old Sophie. There are loads of Sophias around here though, Sophia is much more popular.
Even though Sophie is a popular(ish) name I would still use it if I loved it, you could choose a really unusual name and still have someone else in their class with the same name.
It's a lovely name.

foxtiger · 22/08/2019 20:47

I don't think I currently know a Sophie who is younger than about 14, but at the same time it doesn't seem actively old-fashioned. I think it would be quite a good choice for the criteria you want.

daisypond · 22/08/2019 20:52

I don’t know any young ones. The youngest is 16. It’s a lovely name. And there isn’t the pronunciation issue you get with Sophia.

Yika · 22/08/2019 21:23

Sophie is a lovely name. I don't know any very young ones.

tracybe · 22/08/2019 21:40

Sophie is a beautiful name,I know a 40 year old Sophie and one 5 year old. I prefer it to Sophia

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/08/2019 22:38

My favourite girls name!

Yes it's popular, but popular for a reason - it is timeless & gorgeous!

I know 2 under 5. One age 25. One age 35.

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 22/08/2019 22:45

I don't understand why people are put off by popular names. I can't remember the exact statistic but even the most popular name each year is actually really uncommon when you look at how many children are born each year. If you like the name use it. Sophie has been around ages and not going anywhere for a reason.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/08/2019 22:48

Every time I see the name Sophie I can hear Sally Webster's voice saying it. Puts me right off.

PonteLaCorona · 22/08/2019 22:57

Sophie is a much nicer name than Sophia.

Timeless and simple. Sophia is dated and sounds harsh. I prefer names that end in -ie than those that end with -a

Nocturnalpearl · 23/08/2019 01:21

I haven't come across any Sophie's. I really like it. I actually prefer it to Sophia/Sofia x

pumkinspicetime · 23/08/2019 02:01

You can't always tell what is going to be popular, my DP's went for the unusual name Grace. 15 years later there was an absolute flood of Graces, they are still are.

songlikeyou · 23/08/2019 09:40

I know a lot of Sophies in their early twenties but only two children with the name (8 and 11). My friend works in a nursery and has five girls named variations of Sophie/Sophia in one group.

It’s a lovely name that suits all ages, but it’s hard to predict how popular it will be. I have an unusual name and met two others at my school, whereas my brother has a very popular name and didn’t have another in his school at all. I’d say use the name if you really like it Smile

PetraRabbit · 23/08/2019 21:57

Sophie is really lovely. I have a 40 year old friend called Sophie and know a 7 year old Sophie. It sounds French and elegant to me and it's a true classic.

I do dislike Sophia/Sofia though. It is really, really common and trying so hard to be different yet so samey. I know so, so many. I never understand how all those parents thought Sofia was nicer than Sophie....
