Trying to decide on a boys name

OneAndDoneForNow · 22/08/2019 14:00

Baby due imminently and still no decision on names! Trying to decide between:

Samuel
Edward
Dominic
Luke
Harry

Samuel and Edward would likely be shortened to Sam or Eddie eventually but not keen on Dom as a shortening for Dominic. Any thoughts?

Samuel, Edward and Dominic all really nice, can't choose between them. Not keen on Luke and lots of Harrys about.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 22/08/2019 17:01

All very popular/widely used. I like Dominic best.

Star801 · 22/08/2019 17:04

I like Dominic

Shadow1234 · 22/08/2019 18:15

Dominic

Louisasasa · 22/08/2019 18:15

I like Edward but none of the others. Really don’t like Dominic

Shadow1234 · 22/08/2019 18:17

Don't forget, Ted is also a very popular shortening for Edward.

dontforgettofloss · 22/08/2019 18:17

I'd go with Dominic too

FantasticPhyllis · 22/08/2019 18:19

I like Samuel and Dominic. My friend is a Dominic and his name is never shortened.

AdaColeman · 22/08/2019 18:20

Dominic is my favourite.

Harry & Luke least favourite.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/08/2019 18:25

I'm afraid, in my experience, Dominic is a naughty boy's name... All your other choices are lovely though; I'd go for Luke or Samuel, personally

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 22/08/2019 19:01

Dominic is my favourite. The others are a bit ‘meh’.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 22/08/2019 22:45

Dominic or Luke

Tillygetsit · 23/08/2019 00:22

My cousin is lots older than me and is very high up in the police force.. naughty boy Dominic! 😂

Nocturnalpearl · 23/08/2019 01:08

I loved Dominic for a boy but my Dh vetoed it due to a personal connection. I think it's a strong name that works well as a boy and a man and it's not very common without being too out there. I would use the nn Dom but if you don't like you could use nic or nico

CampfireZen · 23/08/2019 14:27

Love Dominic. Perfect in its full form, IMO.

(Never seem to meet any little Dominics these days. Odd).

But if you do want an alternative to the shortener Dom/Nick, a very cool French actor Dominic somebody was 'Nico' to his friends/family, apparently!

99bb · 23/08/2019 14:28

Dominic or Edward

I think Dom is unavoidable though so you’d have to get over that

CampfireZen · 23/08/2019 14:28

Oops, should have read PP suggesting same!
Well, that's another vote for it...

Sleepnplay · 23/08/2019 14:49

I like Luke and Samuel the most from your list. Agree that Dominic could be Nic, but think it is likely to end up as Dom.

bridgetreilly · 23/08/2019 18:24

In order of preference:
Luke
Dominic
Harry
Edward
Samuel

But they're all good.

AverageMummy · 23/08/2019 19:21

Dominic and Edward are both lovely

joystir59 · 24/08/2019 20:39

Luke is beautiful.
