I don't know about Effie.

Objectively I like it, it's cute and kind of cool (although agree with others that it's absolutely not a name in its own right, it's definitely a nickname for something else).

However, it does kind of remind me of 'eff' as in swearing as in 'effing and jeffing' etc and that puts me off it.

Lol at 'Effie, brace yourself' - love that film!

Had this pregnancy been a girl he would likely have been Evelyn, known as Effie. Effie is a great name.

Effie is a nice name - it’s originally a nick name like Lizzie or Charlie but I don’t see why that matters. And I don’t think having similar or the same names as family names is an issue.

I read the title of your opening post quickly as “effing name”.

Me too 😂
I don’t like it sorry OP. It’s too frilly and childish sounding/looking to be a name in its own right. Why not use it as a nickname

emmyblake · 22/08/2019 18:45

I looooove it.
Use the name you love, you’ll regret it if you don’t.
I knew one in college who was Seraphina nn Effie

AriadneCrete · 22/08/2019 18:51

I know one whose real name is Elizabeth. I wouldn’t use it as a name by itself.

Ellmau · 22/08/2019 22:40

What about Elfrida?

june2007 · 22/08/2019 23:09

I know an Effie, It's nice name.

Sparklyshoes16 · 23/08/2019 00:10

I know an Effie it's a lovely name shortened from a Greek name Effrancinie go for it...can be a name on its own or shortened.

pregnantncnc · 23/08/2019 00:51

It can be used as a nickname for any F name I think (as well as all the other E etc names mentioned). I know a Fiona known as Effie.
