Thoughts on this name for a baby girl?
I like McKayla Rose

The perception of the Mc/mac names is that they are American and were fashionable a few years ago amongst young working class British women, what many would call chavs. Of course it's not totally true as JK Rowling called her daughter Mackenzie.

I like McKayla, I'm Scottish and nobody cares about the son of meaning here. It's different and modern but not too out there.

StockTakeFucks · 20/08/2019 18:30

Well it started getting popular in the US in 1988 so it's not like OP made it up herself by throwing some scrabble pieces in the air.

Fudgecakes · 20/08/2019 18:31

My friend has this name which I think lovely but she spells it Mechaela which is a beautiful and slightly unusual way to spell it without being too 'out there'

CassianAndor · 20/08/2019 18:36

Of course you can like a name spelt one way and not another!
I like Jane, but hate Jayne.
I prefer Clare to Claire.
I like Susannah but not Suzanna.

Its not hard.

StockTakeFucks · 20/08/2019 18:37

I love how the "made up" bar is basically reduced to how familiar someone is other countries, spellings and cultures.

Ohhh I've never heard it, it's made up and you're bonkers. No love, you're ignorant and have a limited knowledge of the outside world.

HeadintheiClouds · 20/08/2019 18:39

I can’t take anyone seriously who likes a name, but dislikes the correct spelling of it.
It’s simply too ludicrous.

Cathyheathcliff · 20/08/2019 18:39

Really dont like McKayla. It makes me think of McDonalds... Kayla is lovely though or spell it Michaela

ChristmasArmadillo · 20/08/2019 18:44

McKayla is the Americanized version of Michaela according to Google (though I know a dozen of the former and I’ve never seen Michaela before - wouldn’t have ever thought it was pronounced the same!).

No, no, no, no. Even the proper spelling Michaela is so 90’s and naff.

UrsulaPandress · 20/08/2019 18:49

I can’t get over the fact that the McKayla someone posted only weighed 46kg.

Your bubz your choice hun.

TheVanguardSix · 20/08/2019 18:51

Heavens above.

Cookit · 20/08/2019 18:51

Yes but Michaela is pronounced Mick-ay-la, which is exactly what you’re going for, no? I’m confused about how you can not like it.

PuffHuffle5 · 20/08/2019 18:53

Well of course, most of us agree we like Michaela but dislike McKayla - but that’s quite an extreme example. Of course you can prefer a certain spelling but to go from really wanting to use a name to not even considering it because of its original (not unique and special enough) spelling on paper is a bit weird.

PuffHuffle5 · 20/08/2019 18:55

But for what it’s worth OP, Rose is a very nice name. I think we’ve all forgotten about poor Rose. Can’t go wrong with that.

DontCallMeShitley · 20/08/2019 18:55

I glanced at the thread title and thought it was one of those crappy detective series that only has a name for a title.

It is awful as a first name, OK if it was a surname though.

StockTakeFucks · 20/08/2019 18:55

@UrsulaPandress she's a gymnast . They do tend to be quite small.

neon552 · 20/08/2019 19:45

Should I be very honest? Have been watching this American program called Unexpected I believe? Basically a reality show of teens who are about to become parents. Watchable trash. Anyway one of the teen girls on there is Mckayla. It may be hormones but I can’t seem to let it go...
Off researching other names now, I’m very picky. You’ll probably be seeing another thread from me very soon!

Wow. Some real arseholes commented on this didn't they? Hmm

Ambridgedweller · 20/08/2019 19:59

Michaela Rose is a pretty name I think. Why spell it that way? I don't get it at all.

dreichhighlands · 20/08/2019 20:05

This is perhaps not the best origin for a baby's name.
In RL I wouldn't comment but it seems worth mentioning it before a dc is named, while on a anonymous forum.
That said ultimately it is your choice and you need to be happy with it.

SaltedCaramelEverything · 20/08/2019 20:08

I agree Michaela is too like Michael

What about Mikayla? I know one of those and always liked the spelling. Makes sense to me!

1lov3comps · 20/08/2019 20:10

I know a Makayla and a Mikayla. When I sent a Congrats card for the first one, I wrote Michaela and got corrected. When the second one was born, I used Makayla and got corrected Grin

ashtrayheart · 20/08/2019 20:16

Mikayla isn't too bad, not keen on the Mc part.

HeadintheiClouds · 20/08/2019 20:25

I agree Michaela is too like Michael
For the love of God, people, Michaela is the feminine version of Michael 🤣🤣🤣. Seriously, engage your brain.
