Where are you look for names?

I’ve got a book “baby names 2019” which has “over 8,000 of this years favourite names”. However I’m coming across names that it’s missing. I got chatting to a mum with 2 boys the other day, lovely names - not in the book! Yet according to the baby name popularity checker they were top 2500 (ONS 2017 - I used the popularity checker on BBC). Then an old friend has named her baby girl a name which I hadn’t heard before and it was actually about 120 on the ONS 2017... again not in the book!

I’ve got the baby name app and the kinder app which are quite helpful (both I saw recommended on MN - thank you!). Also been looking at the ONS top 1000 list.

Ok writing this down I’m clearly over thinking this! But I’m struggling with boys names and I just don’t want to feel like after I’ve settled for something, that I just hadn’t come across “the one”!!

So, anywhere else I should be looking?

Movie credits and cemeteries are great.

The ons data includes every single name given to 3 or more babies so it’s pretty complete. I bought a book but was also not impressed with it so I stick to the ons tables.

Yes that’s true - cemeteries are great because they are full of ancient classics ripe for revival

@Aquamarine1029 this is the quote of the day for me. Totally true. I love wandering around church yards and looking at names. And on census documents when researching family history. I actually found some cool names...

@Jayteedee

I love walking through cemeteries and reading the names. I found one once of a man who lived in the 1800's and his first name was Silver and he had my maiden name. I thought his name was so lovely.

Oh hadn’t thought of cemeteries!

Can anyone send a link to ONS tables please?
