Hazel or Iris?

I'm 24 weeks pregnant and think this one is a girl (have two boys already). We have finally settled, I think, on Hazel or Iris for a name - which do you prefer? Both go equally with the surname.

If you hate both there's not much point replying unless you've got a brilliant alternative suggestion, we've been through every name out there it feels like!

Pearl?? Really? Pearl is a grandmother in a white knitted cardi and horn-rimmed spectacles.

RedCowboyBoots · 17/08/2019 15:13

Sex worker names are things like Candy, Bunny or Diamond.

Hazel is 60-something primary school teacher to me as well.

TatianaLarina · 17/08/2019 15:38

Those too.

KaySarahSarah · 17/08/2019 16:23

Pearl is a singer.

I love the look of Iris in theory but when I try to say it it sort of turns in my mouth into "Irish" which ruins it for me.

So another vote for Hazel.
Though just to toss into the pot, how about Aphra...?

MissHenty · 17/08/2019 17:09

Iris is a GORGEOUS name

Could you let us know which you choose when the time comes? No one ever does and it drives me mad the not knowing

AverageMummy · 17/08/2019 17:17

Hazel is lovely

idril · 17/08/2019 17:22

I have a Hazel.

She gets compliments on her name all the time (and I mean all the time!) by adults. Occasionally gets called Hazelnut by children.

I still love her name. Also love Iris but obviously prefer Hazel!

Still seems quite unusual too.

mistermagpie · 17/08/2019 17:49

It's funny, the only Hazel I have ever met was indeed my 60 year old primary school teacher!

In my job, coincidentally enough, I work with lots of data relating to 'sex workers' or 'women involved in prostitution' as they should actually be referred to. Never come across a Hazel...

Anyway, if that wasn't outing enough... one of my sons is called Hamish. Is a Hamish and a Hazel too 'Kardashian'?

No, you can get away with it because one will be a Mr and one a Miss. I wouldn't give two of the same sex names beginning with the same initial to avoid confusion with the post.

I wonder if we had the same teacher... Surname beginning with H?

WeshMaGueule · 17/08/2019 20:34

Both lovely. Hazel Iris Catherine.

swanfacade · 17/08/2019 22:05

Iris 🥰 Then she'll always have that beautiful song as well...

If she's due December then how about Iris Noelle? If November then maybe Iris Marie...

Sophronia · 17/08/2019 22:28

Iris Catherine

lotusbell · 17/08/2019 22:35

Actually love Hazel but knew one as a child and she was a complete horror so its put me off, sadly. I love Iris too.

MerryDeath · 18/08/2019 19:34

oh really @TatianaLarina 🤔😂
