Baby number 5 for me. Would really like not to have a name that will be shared with others in it’s class at school (I know you can never be certain but, I do TRY to avoid it!), and I also try to avoid anything too common as we have a VERY common surname. Opinions on our current shortlist please.

Patrick
Hector

Quentin
Kenny

Zebulon - Zeb
Vincent - Vinnie
Dexter

Silas
Dominic

Agatha
Marilla - Milla
Adelaide - Addie

Delia
Susannah - Sukie

Meredith
Miriam
Orla

Stella
Robin

Just to clarify, Zebulon IS a name 🤣

One of Joseph’s brothers in Joseph & The Technicolour Dreamcoat (therefore also the bible) is called Zebulon.

In the original French version of The Magic Roundabout, Zebedee is called Zebulon.

In The Waltons tv series, the grandfather is called Zebulon.

I wouldn’t consider giving my kid a name I invented ...not that there’s anything wrong with that 😄

Zeb is cool nickname but I'm not keen on Zebulon. I know a Zebedee.

My favourite is Quentin and for a girl Stella.

devilishlygood · 17/08/2019 18:20

Patrick - not hugely popular where I am. I don’t hate it, but it’s a bit ‘pudgey’.
Hector - popular in my area, amongst the posh stay-at-home mums!! 😂
Quentin - love this!!!
Kenny - I just don’t like it...sorry ☹️
Zebulon - Zeb -Zeb is cool, not sure about Zebulon, suspect you may be accused of trying too hard (whatever that means!)
Vincent - Vinnie - ok
Dexter - I like this, but it’s really popular here.
Silas - reminds me of silage, but I grew up on a farm!! 😂
Dominic - think it’s quite popular now, not keen.

Agatha - I know one... her mother is such s bore, a stereotypical ‘NCT’ mum, cant keep her ‘superior’ opinion to herself! 😂
Marilla - Milla - in the ‘Millie’ danger zone. Can’t stand Millie! 🤮 Sorry.
Adelaide - Addie - like this. Bit American, but not awful.
Delia - prefer Della, but not awful.
Susannah - Sukie - Sukie is a name in its own right, prefer Sukie.
Meredith - nope.
Miriam - nice enough.
Orla - very popular here.
Stella - like this but very popular in under 3s here
Robin

I don't like Quentin, I was at school with one and he was wet, and I also think of Quentin Crisp (probably my age!!)

Lavenderblues · 04/09/2019 08:06

I think the young generation will think of Quentin Blake, the lovely illustrator and Quentin Tarantino, both of which are pretty good associations Smile

I think it's a great name - classic but not overused and Q is a cool initial.
