4th Baby Girl - Swedish Names

sportsmixture2202 · 30/07/2019 23:34

I am Swedish, my husband is English. We are in England 75% of the time, spending all school holidays in Sweden.

Baby number 4 is due early September.

Our 3 girls are
Rebecka Milla , Ellinor Carin and Linnea Astrid.

We can't decide on a name for our 4th girl. Her middle name will be Marie

Tyra Marie
Evy Marie (Evy = EV-ee not EE-vie)
Thora Marie
Asta Marie

Which is your favourite?

Asta is lovely. Evy would be my second choice but you may find that UK people will automatically try and say 'Ee-vy'.
Tyra is OK I suppose. Thora, at least in the UK, has quite an 'old lady' image, probably due to the late actress, Thora Hird.

Antonin · 31/07/2019 12:59

Asta is life lovely. Thora sounds ugly is the th is pronounced as i is in the actor Thora Hird’s name. Has been used for a long time in England and not pronounced as Tora.
Have you thought of Tove?
Four girls- how wonderful!

Ninkaninus · 31/07/2019 13:00

Oh I forgot that Thora does exist in the U.K.! I guess it’s pronounced correctly then (in terms of Scandinavian pronounciation) as Tora? It is a very old lady name though, which could make it perfectly hipster if that’s your thing.

Skyejuly · 31/07/2019 13:01

Lumi?

Ninkaninus · 31/07/2019 13:01

Oh x post! If it’s not pronounced Tora then I agree it’s quite an ugly name (sorry to any Thoras!).

helpmum2003 · 31/07/2019 13:04

Asta is pretty.
Evy will be mispronounced, but I like it.
Tyra don't like
Thora - agree with others about Thora Bird.

I love Astrid and Inga

DickVanTyke · 31/07/2019 14:58

I love Asta, also love Evy but as pp’s I would worry about pronunciation here. Good luck deciding!

SmartPlay · 31/07/2019 15:11

I don't like any of those. I do like your other daughters's names, even though I find Linnea a bit overused.
Are Asta and Thora really swedish names? Never heard of them. Except Asta they'd probably all be pronounced wrongly on a regular basis and you daughter will have to spell her name regularly too - this can be quite annoying.
Asta would make people think of Asda.

pinkcosmos · 31/07/2019 15:17

Thora and Astrid. Love the names you've already picked for the other DC too. Beautiful.

FrothyB · 31/07/2019 16:05

I like Asta the best. I love Astrid as a name aswell, but it's been vetoed for our upcoming daughter.

Frith2013 · 31/07/2019 17:02

Asta or Thora.

midsomermurderess · 31/07/2019 22:12

Thora.

sheshootssheimplores · 31/07/2019 22:18

Asta definitely ❤️

LittleDoritt · 31/07/2019 22:23

Loooove Asta and Thora. Not very keen on the other two.

Letthemysterybe · 31/07/2019 22:24

I like Asta the best of
Your choices, but one of my all time favourite girls names is Greta, so I would choose that!

MollyHuaCha · 31/07/2019 22:26

Asta Marie

SwedishEdith · 31/07/2019 22:26

Asta is lovely. Is Thora pronounced Tora? Nice if it is, less nice (in the UK) if Thora.

Enko · 01/08/2019 07:32

Asta or Thora would work best in both languages.

Could I throw in Katrina or Ida as suggestions?

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 01/08/2019 08:03

LOVE Thora. DC2 would have been Thora if he had been a girl.

user1493494961 · 01/08/2019 08:06

Evy or Asta, Thora is dreadful.

Icklepup · 01/08/2019 08:10

Thora Marie

AverageMummy · 01/08/2019 08:13

Asta is lovely and Thora seems super cool but Tyra sounds awful to me sorry
