If we like...

First baby due in a few weeks time and we cannot for the life of us agree on a girls name! I'd love a name that's uncommon but not unique/something that might be considered odd or made up. I'm also quite drawn to nature names I think. DH seems to like more classic names but has struggled to come up with many.

Names I really like which have been vetoed by DH (his reasons in brackets):
Poppy (likes it but feels it suits a younger person and no so much an adult)
Ophelia (just out and out no!)
Ottilie (my current favourite but his least - he is convinced that I made this up and it's not a real name)
Fearne (bad association with someone he once knew)
Autumn (too trendy/just no)
Savannah (too trendy)
Arya (too game of thrones)
Tabitha (nice but sounds like a cat)
Ylva (likes it but said it would be too hard for people to pronounce and spell)

Names he's come up with which I've vetoed (my reasons in brackets!):
Alicia (bad association and feels a bit stiff/stern when said with our surname)
Callie (too close to a family members name - and not a particularly nice one - although it's not an 100% no)

We both quite like Freya, but we have a close friend with that name and it would feel a bit odd to us to use it.

I also love Wren, Neve, Ivy, Fawn, Jasmine and India as middle names, but he's not convinced by any of those either.

Would so appreciate your thoughts and ideas for names that we might both love!! Thank you :)

Zadie is cute.

@nothingtowearever It's such a beautiful name isn't it, I feel a bit gutted that it got a straight out 'no' and that's that. I would never want to put any pressure on as we both have to love whatever we choose but I'm pretty sad to let it go, and for some of the others I'd picked out too, particularly Wren which is another fave.

But thanks to you all we've got a great selection of ideas to go at, which is very much appreciated! We've had a quick chat about the suggestions this evening and the ones that he said sprung out so far were Harriet, Sasha, and Heidi. We'll go through them again properly over this week and see if we can agree on any!

You could also consider Calla, like the lily, if that makes it sound less like your relative's name. I know someone with that name and think it's really pretty.

LittleDoveLove · 31/07/2019 23:04

Haha your other half sounds like mine with his explanations! So hard picking a name, I like a lot of the ones you suggested too! Ottilie is definitely a name as I know someone who has one!

How about
Sienna
Violet
Arabella
Faith
Roseanna

Summer
Maribelle
Serena
Mabel

I had a bit but Savannah was our girl name but you've had that Vito'd!
