Clio TITLE EDITED BY MNHQ AT OP'S REQUEST

I was fixated on Cleo at one point and I know Clio is the name of the car Grin but people made those comments about Cleo as well, despite the different spelling. Clio however (in Greek mythology) is the muse of history. I’ve always loved the name but once DH and I found that out, we felt like we had to use it over Cleo. The reason being DH are massive history geeks Grin I remember my friends laughing at my extensive Plantagenet and Tudor knowledge at school and university even on my history degree! I also met Dh doing history at Oxford and he loves the Ancient Greek history too.

So it just makes sense Smile would you be able to get past the car though Grin

Oh gosh, Clio, not Clip!

Love Clio. Don't name her Clip!!

LuckyLou7 · 27/07/2019 22:59

I clicked on this thread thinking you were considering calling your child Clip. I was going to gently suggest you didn't. Grin
Clio is a lovely name.

bridgetreilly · 27/07/2019 22:59

Just don't give her Nicole as the middle name.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 27/07/2019 23:01

I too clicked on thinking you were naming DD Clip.
Clio very sweet and much better than Clip

viccat · 27/07/2019 23:02

Haha I was going to say Clip sounds good... for a dog. Grin

Mind you I used to catsit a Clio, a very pretty grey tabby. So... Wink

Wigeon · 27/07/2019 23:03

Fellow history graduate with a Cleo here too Smile. I think it really suits her now she’s a child with a proper little personality, not just a baby. Just be prepared for people to call her Chloe all the time. They either don’t think of the car, or are too polite to mention it...

Wigeon · 27/07/2019 23:03

Yes, think people associate it with a cat name at least as much as the car name...

LouMumsnet · 27/07/2019 23:04

Hi there @macbooksticker - we've edited your title now. You're right - Clio is SO much nicer than Clip Grin

FelixFelicis6 · 27/07/2019 23:06

Beautiful!

OneHanded · 27/07/2019 23:09

I won’t lie I did automatically think ‘like Renault?’ But I did have two as my first two cars 😅

Skyejuly · 28/07/2019 12:43

I did think of the car but I do love Classical studies too. :-)

Monicafromfriends · 28/07/2019 12:49

I don't know history very well so would think Cleo was the correct spelling and that you just picked Clio to be like the car or for something different.

daisypond · 28/07/2019 15:16

Clio is great, but I know who she was. People will think Cleo. Clio is loads better. I wouldn’t think of the car really but I’m sure many people will.

Antonin · 29/07/2019 13:37

I wouldn’t automatically think of the car, though I do when I hear the name Austin
Name good for all ages

Pinkout · 29/07/2019 14:52

It does just make me think of the car, sorry.

Champagne791 · 29/07/2019 14:57

Why not call her cleo? It’s a beautiful name, that’s easy to spell and recognisable. Clio will get misspelled and get the cheap car reference.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 29/07/2019 15:03

There is the Irish girls' name Cliona, the name of a goddess and daughter of a poet in Irish myth. You could call her Clio for short and keep the history relevance while divorcing it from the car a bit.

But she will spend her life spelling it for people, so bear that in mind.

whatausername · 29/07/2019 15:43

Love it. I would usually spell it Cleo and wonder if it were misspelt if I saw Clio. Wonder as in would doubt myself whether it should be Cleo or Clio, not definitely say to myself that Clio is wrong. Since you have explained the spelling though it makes perfect sense and I'll forever know that it can be either spelling. The car association for me would be momentary if it occurred at all. It is a lovely name that suits all ages.

Proseccoinamug · 30/07/2019 12:51

In Wales it is always Clio. Move to Wales, OP, it’s the only solution.

Fatkins · 30/07/2019 13:05

I like it. It wouldn't be my favourite name, but it's perfectly nice and I wouldn't necessarily think of the car.

imtheonlyupsieone · 30/07/2019 22:02

Clio is a cooler spelling for the reasons you say but I think people will always get it wrong or assume you're being youneeq somehow. Clio/Cleo is a really pretty name though. I think it's getting a lot more popular
