Stuck on baby names for first baby

We have a surname with connotations to a terrible crime. (Venables). For that reason, we cannot use the name Jon it James or Jamie.
I loved the name James but it doesn’t feel right to use it, especially when the child gets older and Google’s his own name!

I like the name Kit Alexander for a boy - what do people think?

What an awful second name to have, sorry I would change it to something else? I love the name james to tho! And kit that's abit odd? Alexander / Alex is abit better tho. But what goes with Venables are u related to them?

Of course I’m not related to them! It is a common surname! Terry Venables isn’t related to them withers. What a silly thing to say. You just can’t change a name you’re born with (DH)...

What a strange and rude post.

As the OP said it's quite a common surname and you can't just change it. Do you expect everyone with the surname "West" to change their surname for example, or do you just automatically assume they're related to Fred and Rose?

Kit also isn't an odd name but a well known abbreviation for Christopher.

I didn't realise it was common guys and well I think west is abit different cos there's loads of them the only Venables I know is that child murdering one?

A friend has just had a Kit and it's gorgeous. It is quite popular at the moment but such a great name.

Of course you can. That’s why Deed Poll exists.

You also didn’t have to take it —what with that being a hideously sexist tradition and all—. He could have taken your name if he didn’t like the connotations of his. Or you could both have chosen a new name together. Loads of options that would have avoided this situation.
