Dougie James or Tom Joseph?

KatyG123 · 21/07/2019 15:19

Less than a week until due date and still not decided on a name 😬

Narrowed down to Dougie James or Tom Joseph.

Reservations are Dougie maybe not good for an adult and Tom maybe boring/safe?

Any views on either name much appreciated 🙂

My cousin's name is Douglas. As a child he was mostly called Dougie but from teens onwards he became Doug. It depends if you'd be OK with Doug.

KatyG123 · 21/07/2019 15:44

@user1493494961 Yes, I do like Doug but worry my child would hate me as a teen...haha 🤣

Tom Joseph is safer but wonder if I’d regret not going for Dougie as always loved it 💙

If you've narrowed it to two names, you could wait to see which suits him best.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 21/07/2019 16:06

I'd go for Douglas James on BC, known as Dougie.

Chocolatecake12 · 21/07/2019 16:07

I really like Joseph Thomas! Just to mix this up a bit!!
Not keen on Doug/duggie or Douglas though.
But as always, that’s only my opinion and it’s your child so go with what you like best!

itbemay1 · 21/07/2019 16:09

I know an adult Dougie and he is super cool. I love Tom too though. As PP suggested wait and see what he looks like Smile

soundsystem · 21/07/2019 16:11

Dougie James!

I'd also put Douglas on the birth certificate.

Echobelly · 21/07/2019 16:13

I second going for Douglas James, you can call him by the diminutive (as we do for our son who has a more formal full name). I'm generally against naming kids with diminutives, as when they're older they may want to use a name with more gravitas.

DorothyBastard · 21/07/2019 16:29

I have a 3yo Douglas. He is Doug, Dougie (Duggee pronounciation) and Douglas at home and at nursery. He likes being called all three

ImportantWater · 21/07/2019 17:29

Douglas James for sure

Ricketyswimmer · 21/07/2019 17:34

You have the same taste in names as me! My eldest is Thomas Joseph (and awesome, of course Wink) and I wanted to call my youngest Douglas but his dad vetoed it. Go for Dougie Smile

userabcname · 21/07/2019 17:56

Dougie for sure

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 21/07/2019 17:56

Round here a "dougie" means an unintelligent person Blush

KatyG123 · 21/07/2019 18:11

@ChihuahuaMummy1 oh no, not heard that before 🤦‍♀️

Dougie James but Douglas in BC and official things

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 21/07/2019 18:39

@KatyG124 I'm from yorkshire if you're somewhere else I'm sure itll be fine

Sophronia · 21/07/2019 21:37

Douglas James

diddlediddle · 21/07/2019 22:32

Douglas is really nice, bit more imaginative than Tom. Not keen on dougie because I hate boys names ending in ie (so twee) but at least if you go for Douglas he'll have the choice when older.

LottieLucie · 21/07/2019 22:36

Dougie James stood out so much - great name! Smile

RitmoRatmo · 21/07/2019 22:42

Douglas James was the name of someone absolutely lovely who I sadly lost last year. Go for it. Perfect name.

KatyG123 · 21/07/2019 22:44
