After much deliberation, we decided on the name Saskia Fern for DC2 arriving in a few weeks. Don't get me wrong, I like that name, I really really do but something hasn't 'clicked'.

DS is Grayson Tommy (surname)
That name just felt right, you know?

This all started when I was at playgroup with DS this morning and we met a new little girl there called ACACIA. If you've seen my other threads, you'll know about my love affair with this name. I just feel like I'm settling for second best - HELPPP!

Acacia is fine but very unusual. It’ll seem quite copying if you use it. What about it do you like? How about other unusual flower or plant names? Myrtle? Laurel? Dahlia? Hebe? Erica? Rowan? I like Saskia Fern, though. It’s very nice.

Gummibeary · 12/07/2019 15:37

Acacia is beautiful. Saskia is nice too.

It's really not up to us but your preference!

floraloctopus · 12/07/2019 15:37

Personally I prefer Saskia Fern to Acacia. Acacia is honey, all sweetness and light but the rots your teeth. If you want a nature name connected to honey then how about a name connected to bees? Apis mellifera is the honey bee but there are names that mean honey bee as well

PinkieTuscadero · 12/07/2019 15:39

Acacia sounds like a financial services company. I much prefer Saskia. But if Saskia isn't the name don't stress it. She doesn't need to be named immediately! Smile

Paddingtonthebear · 12/07/2019 15:41

I know a middle aged Acacia and she is the grumpiest moody person ever. It always makes me laugh that her name is so unlike her personality.

I prefer Saskia but only you can decide!

I would wait until she is born. Something entirely different may spring to mind!

BlueMerchant · 12/07/2019 15:44

Prefer Saskia.
Sounds like you should just go for the name you really love though.

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2019 15:45

You can't pick a name that your DH doesn't like. Let it go.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/07/2019 15:52

Like I've says to you before.
You'll regret it if you don't use it.
I honestly don't get the big hoo har.
Its hardly the sort of name that'll have Aggie and Maggie gossiping on street corners with their trollies about how unusual a name it is.

kittytiggy · 12/07/2019 15:54

@bridgetreilly I know.

I really do love Saskia, does the middle name Fern work with it though?

Thanks @Paddingtonthebear I think I will wait until she is born to confirm.

Haha as soon as I saw the thread title I knew it'd be you 😂 I so wish your DH would go for Acacia.

carmenbea · 12/07/2019 19:09

Maybe meeting the girl called Acacia was fate? You could have gone off it after meeting someone with the name but it's made you love it even more. You will regret it if you don't use it!

kittytiggy · 12/07/2019 20:06

@Colourfulest would you expect anything less from me Grin

@carmenbea I know I will. Don't know why I always make threads as I'm left with such mixed responses I'm left even more confused!

@kittytiggy lol nope! I know how you must have felt though today when hearing the name Acacia. I had it when naming my DD. I still get the same funny gut feeling when I hear one of the names I had considered for her. Almost like a panic cause I love the name so much and almost regret not using/pushing for it. But then I remember that I picked the best name for her and its all okay again 😂 I'm lucky in that my OH loved my favorite name so much.

SoyDora · 12/07/2019 20:28

The problem is, your DH doesn’t like Acacia. So it’s not fair to use it.

IWouldBeSuperb · 12/07/2019 20:29

Doesn't Melissa mean honey bee?

Haven't met one of those in a while- Melissa Fern?

carmenbea · 12/07/2019 21:01

I always had a list of girls names since I was little and DH didn't like any of them I was gutted lol. I thought he could of let me pick I was a bit upset but if he didn't like it what could I do Sad ended up using a name we both like! (Him more then me)

Goldenhorn · 12/07/2019 22:03

I think that acacia is obviously the one for you and you have your heart set on it so you should go for it x

SoyDora · 12/07/2019 22:07

Goldenhorn but then her DH will have a child with a name he actively dislikes?

Tavannach · 12/07/2019 22:15

Prefer Ava as a mn with Saskia.
I too think you have to let go of Acacia if your DH really doesn't like it, not just because I don't like it at all either. It's a bit try hard and makes me think of Acacia Avenue (comes up as this if you type Acacia into Google and according to Wiki "Acacia Avenue is a cliché in British culture. It is shorthand for an average, unexceptional, middle-class suburban street.")

PinkieTuscadero · 12/07/2019 22:17

If your DH hates the name you should bin it. I wouldn't agree to a name I disliked just because my partner was potty about it.

Shadow1234 · 12/07/2019 23:18

I like Acacia, it is different, but If your DH isn't on board with the name, then it has to be a no. You both have to be in agreeance.

I also think Saskia is a beautiful name, but if it's not clicking for you, then maybe you still haven't found the right one.

What about Aliyah. (a-lee-ya)

Shadow1234 · 12/07/2019 23:19

Sorry, that should be a-lee-ah)

Nobhobs · 12/07/2019 23:24

How do you pronounce it? Ay Kay Sha?

I've never heard it before and I'm curious Smile

Colourfulest · 12/07/2019 23:55

@Nobhobs pretty much. I pronounce it A-Kay-Sha.

Astronica · 13/07/2019 08:29

While Acacia is usable, I much prefer Saskia. Saskia Fern is quite lovely.
