Boys names-opinions please!

Due DC2 soon & am stumped for boys names. Neither DH nor I have any names we "love" and it's more of picking which names we "don't mind" as our dislike list is very long! We downloaded the kinder names app & matched on 1 name (DH says he isn't 100% on the name either-Max!)

We have lots of girls names but boys is another story.

Our list currently
Ethan (DH's suggestion)
Max
Flynn
I love the sound of the name Odin but don't think I can realistically use it!
I like Everett but DH is not at all keen

We both like Max but DH thinks it feels too short although we aren't so keen on Maximus/Maximilian/Maxwell etc. Would really appreciate any opinions on the few names above to hopefully help us along the way as we're at a standstill!

I really like Ethan

you could also use Maxton or Maxim as longer versions of Max x

BlueMerchant · 07/07/2019 17:30

Like Max. I wouldn't feel the need to use a lengthened name on bc.
I don't like the others sorry.

userabcname · 07/07/2019 17:31

Nathan
Otis
Matthew (Matt as a shortened version similar to Max?)
Maddox shortened to Max?
Axel
Alexander

userabcname · 07/07/2019 17:32

Oh sorry, didn't read your OP properly!
I really like Max as a stand-alone name.
Also love Flynn - it's a great name.

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2019 17:52

Ethan (DH's suggestion) - I know loads of Ethans. Not keen. Nothing wrong with it though.
Max - really like it.
Flynn - not keen
I love the sound of the name Odin but don't think I can realistically use it! - yes!
I like Everett but DH is not at all keen - no, just don't.

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2019 18:55

My new nephew is called Odin.

I love it!

CassianAndor · 07/07/2019 19:01

I like Ethan a lot.

Max is sooooooooooooo boring.

Prettylittlelady · 07/07/2019 21:32

Really love Max. I think it’s a lovely stand alone name but if you want to make it a nn of a longer version I think maxwell is nice.

Lavenderblues · 07/07/2019 21:37

Max is boring and overused imo

I like Flynn or how about Quinn?

mondler · 07/07/2019 23:00

I like them all! Max on its own works fine. Going by your choices have you considered Elliot or Marcus?

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 08/07/2019 14:54

Just based on a couple on your list, Oscar or evan

Fatkins · 08/07/2019 16:24

I like Max, but none of the others. I don't think it's too short either.

Ethan is a bit down-market where I live. Odin sounds borderline comical, as it reminds me of Will Ferrell for some reason...? Does he make a joke about it in a movie? Anyway, that's what I think of.

Everett is too much like Elliot which I don't like either.

mollpop · 08/07/2019 23:11

I like Ethan. Not keen on Everett though.

I think Seth is a lovely name

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 08/07/2019 23:13

I love the name Odin!

Astronica · 08/07/2019 23:49
  1. Max - not too short
  2. Flynn
  3. Everett
  4. Ethan - not keen on this
sugarsprinklesrainbowdrops · 09/07/2019 06:32

Thanks everyone! It looks like Max is fairly well liked which is good- I think it's probably my front runner but I don't feel 100% for some reason. I love Odin but was worried it was a bit like calling them Thor.

I'm hoping that if it's a boy, he "looks" like a name to help me along otherwise there's a real fear he'll be nameless until the naming deadline.

Fatkins · 09/07/2019 08:33

Thor is a name too I believe. And yes, Odin does have a similar vibe.

Otis is a lovely alternative, less deity-like suggestion.

It's in Anchorman! "Oh great Odin's Raven"! Not that this would sway me either way.

Gummibaersy · 09/07/2019 08:47

Odin is lovely and much more memorable than Max (there are so many Maxes).

thedevondumpling · 09/07/2019 09:00

I took my GS to an activity every week when he was preschool. There was an Odin and a Thor. Nothing wrong with the names but they did get eye rolls, it always felt like it was all a bit of a performance with mothers being very libaterian and apparently neither ever had "no" said to them and it did show so I suppose that has put me off a bit.

thedevondumpling · 09/07/2019 09:02

On a more positive note I think Max and Ethan are both lovely names.

Maxim is lovely as well.

I can't see what would be 'eye roll worthy' about either name? I wonder where you live?
