Jasmine and Anastasia

Just wondering if people would think of the Disney link between these names?

I've got a daughter called Jasmine and really like Anastasia. But the whole Disney thing is putting me off.

I didn't see the connection until you mentioned it! I day go for it. I adore both names, especially Anastasia!

SweetJasmine17 · 03/07/2019 21:19

I like both but they don't really go together... unless there's a Russian version of Jasmine?

Snoopy90 · 03/07/2019 21:22

Anastasia would be for her baby sister, forgot to mention that. I'm not too fussed about them not going, just don't want a Disney princess theme. Glad you didn't notice is TurquoiseAndPurple😊

I didn't think Disney at all either.

Nonameyet1 · 03/07/2019 21:24

I think they are both lovely and didn’t think Disney

TurquoiseAndPurple · 03/07/2019 21:25

I personally think they sound lovely together. But also think names don't need to 'go together' as they would be two different people. And their names won't be said together for the majority of their lives!

I really hope you go for Anastasia! ❤️

MamaOfBothTeams · 03/07/2019 21:26

I did think of Disney when I first read them but they are nice names

DixieLandReject · 03/07/2019 21:27

No, didn’t make that connection at all either. I prefer Jasmine but just personal preference, both lovely.

Princessfaffalot · 03/07/2019 21:28

I did think Disney too but they’re really pretty names in their own right.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 03/07/2019 21:48

Anastasia isn't a Disney film. Confused

RubberTreePlant · 03/07/2019 21:52

The Disney 'character' of Anastasia is really a historical figure (and her imposter), so, no, I wouldn't make the connection unless someome mentioned it.

They're both lovely names in their own right. It's not like naming a child Cinderella or Snow White.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/07/2019 22:13

Yes some will get the connection, (I did). Some won't. However its not a bad association, is it. If you had a Rosemary and were planning on naming this one Myra, then of course. You would get funny WTF looks.

carmenbea · 03/07/2019 22:17

Anastasia isn't a Disney film. I prefer Jasmine but with the new film just out more people will probably associate the name with Aladdin

RubberTreePlant · 03/07/2019 22:20

OP already has a Jasmine.

BogglesGoggles · 03/07/2019 22:22

Anastasia was Fox not Disney. A bit of a tragic namesake though.

carmenbea · 03/07/2019 22:23

Oh my bad 😂

Justgivemesomepeace · 03/07/2019 22:25

I like both of them and didnt think of the disney link. Those two names and Saskia are my top girls names at the moment.

Snoopy90 · 03/07/2019 23:05

Thanks for all your comments😊 I didn't realise Anastasia isn't Disney! I just assumed it was. That makes me feel better about it.

I love Saskia as well, really considered it but not keen on the nn Sasi and I think people would shorten it to that.

PunkAssMoFo · 03/07/2019 23:35

Anastasia was indeed made by Fox, but Disney bought Fox and now Anastasia is Disney on a technicality.

Irrespective of this Anastasia is a really beautiful name, so you should definitely use it!

TurquoiseAndPurple · 04/07/2019 09:03

I adore Saskia. It has too much of a similar sound though to my current DD so I can't use it now 😭😭😭

Fatkins · 04/07/2019 14:37

Anastasia actually isn't a Disney movie. I think it's Fox, but not sure. It's based on a real person obviously, whereas Disney movies never are. So I wouldn't think Anastasia is a Disney name at all. Jasmine more so, but it's still a fine name.

Fatkins · 04/07/2019 14:38

Oh sorry, I see pps have already mentioned it's Fox! It's fine.

Champy87 · 04/07/2019 19:04

Just to say that I know two Saskia’s (age 17 and 30) and neither has their name shortened to Sasi. One gets Saskers and the other is sometimes Sas if that’s any help at all

Justgivemesomepeace · 04/07/2019 20:13

I think of it as Sassy. I like that. Anyway Anastasia is gorgeous.

blueberrykitty · 04/07/2019 20:14

My sisters middle name is Anastasia I love it
