Tenpole?

Chewbecca · 28/06/2019 20:38

There was a gorgeous little boy called Tudor on Child Genius a few years back. I wanted to adopt him, his parents were so pushy. It made me like the name.

bridgetreilly · 28/06/2019 20:52

I know an adult Tudor. It's still a bit weird and I think he's very bored of people commenting on it.

Fatkins · 28/06/2019 20:56

Thanks for confirming that Mike.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/06/2019 20:56

I knew a Tudor years ago, he had a sister called Angharad. Both lovely names

namestar · 28/06/2019 21:05

Tudor crisps. Sorry.

AnonymousP · 28/06/2019 21:15

I like it! I actually met a man called Tudor for the first time a few weeks ago. V cool and unusual but not OTT or trendy (in my opinion). Go for it!

SirVixofVixHall · 28/06/2019 21:50

Tudor and Angharad were obviously welsh though.

JennaOfEluria · 28/06/2019 21:58

All the Tudors I know are old men now...but I've grown up with it being a pretty normal man's name and quite like it to be honest.

The only thing that would stop me using it is the surname. If your surname could be interchangeable with a first name (e.g. Mitchell, David, Thomas etc) then I'd think of something else because it could cause confusion as Tudor isn't common at the moment.

foreverhanging · 28/06/2019 22:24

Sorry, it's a no from me

AzraiL · 28/06/2019 22:26

No.

They're goung to call him Turd-or in school.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 28/06/2019 22:50

It's a lovely name. Seriously love it. Go for it OP!

Cbeebiesrehab · 28/06/2019 23:28

Perfectly fine name (I am welsh though)

Kids are far more accepting that Mumsnet gives them credit for. And if children are going to pick on a peer they will find something regardless of their name. There is such a range of unusual names nowadays I doubt his classmates would bat an eyelid.

Pannalash · 28/06/2019 23:31

Reminds me of the crisp advert ‘canny bag of Tudor’, but then I’m showing my age Grin

dreichuplands · 28/06/2019 23:32

It isn't that unusual in America as a first name.

PolkadotLollipop · 28/06/2019 23:40

Another Welshie here but I’m not keen on the name, I think because I associate it with the knobbish guy who used to hang around outside my high school selling drugs to the lads and trying sleep with the girls.

NorksofPlenty · 28/06/2019 23:50

I used to know a Tudor, always thought it was a cool name

Pinkfinkle · 29/06/2019 04:47

Agreed with your DH, it’s not great.

BarryBarryTaylor · 29/06/2019 07:36

I actually like it. I can see the appeal, it isn’t common and it isn’t a made up word either.

I do really like the suggestions of Torben though.

Veterinari · 29/06/2019 07:56

They're goung to call him Turd-or in school

They really aren’t Hmm
The response on mumsnet to any name of Celtic origin is that it’s awful.

The biggest issue here is that it doesn’t matter what we think, your DH hates it - you need to find another name

Frith2013 · 29/06/2019 09:37

Quite common round here. Different pronunciation in Wales.

Tudur Owen has a comedy show on radio 4 about his name that you could listen to on BBC sounds.

AppleKatie · 29/06/2019 09:41

I know a teenage one. As far as I know he doesn’t get any stick for it. It’s not to my taste particularly but it isn’t awful

JustTheCrowsAndTheBeef · 29/06/2019 09:47

He'll be bullied when he learns about Tudors at school

And if the name were Stuart / Stewart?

Drum2018 · 29/06/2019 09:57

Awful name, as are some of the other suggestions given Shock

madcatladyforever · 29/06/2019 10:41

Tudor......why? Sorry but there seems to be a ridiculous name competition these days. Do you ever think of your poor kids.
