Hi,
What do you think of a name Bianca please? Is it so bad as I heard from someone? Apparently it is spoiled by a tv character which I don't watch.
I love the name, in my country it is spelled Bianka. Do you think I should go for it or give up?

Like it. Very unusual but nice and classic. Never met one.

saywhatwhatnow · 27/06/2019 19:41

It is the name of a very popular tv soap character.

It's not very popular irl though, I know one in her 30s, so go for it!

Sooooozie · 27/06/2019 19:43

Absolutely love it. Classy and unusual.

Ohyesiam · 27/06/2019 19:45

To me it’s the opposite of classy.

Camomila · 27/06/2019 19:49

In Italy its relatively posh, I really like it, and I don't think her peers will know the eastenders characters.

Buddyelf · 27/06/2019 19:49

Yeh I’m sorry Eastenders has ruined that name for me forever.
It’s actually a lovely name and used in The Taming of the Shrew but I can’t get past the Eastenders thing I’m afraid

DickZillaofTheVilla · 27/06/2019 19:56

I always wanted to be called Bianca when I was growing up I think it’s a beautiful name but I would think 99% of people are going to think of Bianca in Eastenders shouting Rickaaaaaaaaay

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/06/2019 19:58

I think it's fine if you're not in the UK. Good luck.

Ginger1982 · 27/06/2019 20:19

Fine if not in the UK but 'Biaaaaaanca!' and 'Riiiiiickyyyy!' will haunt me forever.

Peitho · 27/06/2019 20:31

It's one of those names, like Sabrina, that can seem really classy depending on your associations or really unclassy. I like it and think if you love it you should go for it. I think your child having an Eastern European (?) parent/s will make a difference, make it seem more Euro cool than Walford cool. I quite liked Bianca Jackson anyway Grin

Sparklysunflower · 27/06/2019 20:58

I like it!

yayitsagirl · 27/06/2019 21:03

Rickaaaaay

sneakypinky · 27/06/2019 21:06

RICCCKKAAAYYYY

awuszka · 27/06/2019 21:07

Thank you all for your opinions - positive and negatives, it's helpful to see that there are not only negative ones;)
I really really love this name. Yes, we are Eastern European parents.
Any more opinions please?

My first bike was a Raleigh Bianca. Lilac and pink with white wheels. Beautiful!

Fortunately I always remember that over the soap character.

ReganSomerset · 27/06/2019 21:18

I don't know the soap character and your child's peers are also unlikely to. For everyone that matters, Bianca will become your dd, regardless of who they currently associate it with. I wouldn't let it put me off.

Nonameyet1 · 27/06/2019 22:13

If you live in the UK it’s a big no I’m afraid. I can’t even see past Eastenders (the tv programme it was on!)

SemperIdem · 27/06/2019 22:35

I think it is a lovely name.

Audrey is making a comeback despite the Coronation Street connotations, so I see no reason why Bianca can’t too.

Would you be pronouncing it Bee-an-ka or Bee-ahn-ka? The latter will separate it again from Eastenders.

3boysandabump · 27/06/2019 22:54

I don't like it but I'm in the North East and I think it's the accent up here that ruins it tbh.

Mainlandeurope · 27/06/2019 22:57

I've never even watched EastEnders but I know about Bianca! Probably won't matter if you don't live in the UK though

SleepWarrior · 27/06/2019 22:58

While there is the negative TV character association for a lot of people, it's actually a lovely name and I reckon a real life little girl would quickly displace the TV Bianca in people's minds.

Yinyen · 27/06/2019 23:00

Sorry it's a big no from me. I know a Bianca and she has every other new person make a joke about it. Are you Polish? Use Katazyna such a beautiful name.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 27/06/2019 23:02

I know a little Bianca. Think her parents are eastern European - it's a lovely name. Kids of her generation won't have any negative associations but some parents might. I think this will die out over time.

Snoopy90 · 27/06/2019 23:12

Such a beautiful name. No one her age is going to associate it with eastenders.

AverageMummy · 27/06/2019 23:30

I’m 34 so think “rickkkkkyyyyy”

But her generation won’t think that at all. It’s a lovely name. And Bianca in Eastenders might be a bit rough round the edges but I quite liked her.
