Original name given to Merlin. Myrddin Emrys

Thoughts?

My favourite so far. Being Welsh myself wanting a Welsh first name that's easy for English to pronounce as now live in England

It was my first choice but DH vetoed it :(

DappledThings · 25/06/2019 19:30

DS's best friend at nursery. I really like it. Doesn't cause any pronunciation issues that I'm aware of.

AverageMummy · 25/06/2019 20:06

How do you say it? ‘Em-riss’ ?

AverageMummy · 25/06/2019 20:07

Or is it more like how Rhys is said?

I am really terrible for this sort of thing though

MikeUniformMike · 25/06/2019 20:59

As I posted earlier it is EM-riss.
Rhys varies in pronunciation and does not sound like Emrys.

MikeUniformMike · 25/06/2019 21:03

Sorry, I meanyt Rhys is phonetic in Wales and does not transliterate.
Rees is the nearest transliteration but to a Welsh ear doesn't sound like that.
Emrys is always pronounced EMriss

AverageMummy · 25/06/2019 23:02

So even I would have guessed right then and I’m terrible

ConfCall · 26/06/2019 21:43

Love it. Emlyn too.

Msgiggles30 · 26/06/2019 21:50

Emrys is my late grandads name. Never come across anyone else with it and love it Smile. I'm in south wales

FirstTim3Mummy · 29/06/2019 08:20

Thanks everyone. I really am in love with this name. My DH agrees! My little Emrys, due Jan 9th 2020

Really want to tell people but DH wants to wait. The only person we will tell is my sister as she is 10 weeks ahead of me and we don't want her to take the name first! Shes keeping sex suprise so may not be a boy but we don't want to be disappointed

I hope she doesn't mind

Lovely name, congrats OP! Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

Seems like a relatively easy one for English people to pronounce as well (although I have an Arianwen - which is harder for people here that you'd think!)

PeachandBee · 29/06/2019 12:59

Emrys is a great name! My mother wanted to call my twin brothers Myrddin and Emrys but my father shot it down. They got very traditional English names in the end and it always felt like a missed opportunity!
