Matt and Max- too similar?

Hi, I'm due in August with my first baby. We don't know the sex so are choosing both male and female names but are really stuck on boys names.

Out of our short list I like Max best, but my husband's name is Matthew and I call him Matt. Do you think I should just cross Max off the list as it's too similar? Or are they different enough that it wouldn't be confusing?

I would say it's a bit too similar for my liking. My youngest has a name that can be shortened to a name that rhymes with my DH name. As he's got older that's the name he uses. It's a pain when I'm talking about them!!

Too similar for siblings but I'm not sure if it would be an issue for father and son

Too similar

Twotome · 17/06/2019 17:16

I think they are fine for siblings so definitely fine for father and son.

Not at all ‘Daddy’ & ‘Max’ aren’t too similar whatsoever Grin

Fine for father and son.

DramaAlpaca · 17/06/2019 20:13

OK for father & son.

We had the same issue so when it was between Max or Zac we went for Zac

Snoopy90 · 17/06/2019 20:38

I think that's absolutely fine.

I have a Max and sometimes people think I am saying Matt.
But I don’t think it’s an issue for parent and child like it would be a sibling

Fine. Both nice names.

fairybeagle · 19/06/2019 14:11

I don't think it's too similar at all x

I do find the sound of Matt and Max quite similar. Imagine calling it up the stairs or in the park?
