I feel like it’s a classic name. Is it horrendously popular? I know a few of various ages but no children. Is it blah?!
Thoughts please :)

My DS’s name is quite a popular one (unbeknown to us at the time although we’d probably still have picked it). So we are not looking to be trend setters or anything, just a nice simple name.

Great name

avocadochocolate · 16/06/2019 10:13

I decided when I was a little girl that Lucy would be my DD's name. However, when my two DDs were born it was in the top 10 list, so I reluctantly decided against it.

Orchidflower1 · 16/06/2019 10:15

I know 4 Lucy’s - two adults (44 and 48) and two children ( 8 and 10) and though they are all different they all suit their name!

Orchidflower1 · 16/06/2019 10:16

Also should say the 8 year old Lucy is the niece of the 44 year old one!

Jsmith99 · 16/06/2019 10:19

Lovely name. In my experience, all Lucys are very nice people.

Howtotrainyourhamster · 16/06/2019 10:28

I was at university with an awful Lucy, so perhaps that’s why I don’t like it! I find it bland and twee but I also don’t really like the ‘ie’ names for girls (possibly because I have one!) I think I’m in the minority though. There’s nothing objectively wrong with it but I find it a bit meh.

Clownfish123 · 16/06/2019 11:15

I find it really dull personally. It's perfectly fine and inoffensive though.

Pinkmouse6 · 16/06/2019 12:07

I like it. I don’t think it’s as popular as it was when I was at school in the 90s. There are a couple of Lucy’s in my DCs school but nowhere near as popular as Olivia.

septembersunshine · 16/06/2019 15:55

I have a Lucy and she is 9! She was the only one in her infants school and presently she is the only one at her junior school. I have been a mum 13 years and have only ever met two Lucys. Both when my older dd was a toddler and we lived in another part of the country. Remember popularity can be regional. Lucy is not that popular imo though! But it is such a lovely name

Cordyline1 · 16/06/2019 15:58

I like it. Reminds me of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

Jeffter · 16/06/2019 16:01

It was incredibly popular 10-20 years ago, there's loads in secondary school now. Not so popular now. I think it's lovely.

fatcakes · 16/06/2019 16:44

Its a name which is sweet when the child is small yet still has credibility when an adult.
I have a Lucy. She's 15 and truly lovely.
I'm very proud of her: she intends to be a massive force in Women's Rights when she's older.

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/06/2019 16:49

I think it's a lovely name. We have about 5 in school at any one time (1000+) pupils - so not overly popular (we must have 20 Girls called Lilly and more Ellie!)

Georgeofthejungle · 18/06/2019 10:54

Thank you ladies (and gents??). I think we have made up our minds and lovely to have so many positive comments. I can totally understand the other ones too and these are my own concerns with it but having grown up with a bit of an unusual name I’m quite happy with something a little more ‘mainstream’ and like something more timeless without going Victoria, Elizabeth, etc. :)

I love Lucy. It has precious associations for me personally.

It's one of those names that never really seems to date, even though it's not overly common at the moment.

There was a Lucy in my year at school, and there are now two Lucy's in my daughter's year! So definitely a name that moves with the times!

Tillygetsit · 20/06/2019 23:14

Sorry but I really dislike it. Have met 3 adult Lucy's...all cows. Also contains the sound loose. Yuk.

MollyHuaCha · 20/06/2019 23:19

Love it.

Bluerussian · 20/06/2019 23:41

Lucy is a lovely name, timeless too, go for it.

Magicmonster · 20/06/2019 23:45

I really like it. Would have been on my own list but was vetoed by DH (on the basis a friend’s wife is called Lucy and he doesn’t like her!)
