Boy names.... do you think of initials?

We're struggling to decide on a name for our baby boy because everything we love creates a 'word' with the initials....would this bother you?

For example, we love Theodore Arthur and Hugo Arthur but with our surname starting with a T it creates TAT or HAT... are we overthinking?! Grin

It is likely to happen if you give a middle name that starts with a vowel, but I honestly wouldn't worry about it for innocent words like that.
My maiedn and married names both mean my initials spell words, but no-one has ever bothered to comment on it.

Yabu! As long as it's not FART or BUM or similar it's fine!!

AverageMummy · 14/06/2019 21:25

HAT isn’t an issue
FAT is

So yes think about it - but it doesn’t have to rule out all words

bridgetreilly · 14/06/2019 23:44

You could always add a second middle name. Hugo Theodore Arthur would be fine.

Banhaha · 15/06/2019 09:41

Good idea, have two middle names if it bothers you.

We definitely thought about this, but came to the conclusion that as long as the initials don’t spell something offensive or that kids could manipulate into a swear word or something mean it doesn’t matter. Having said that, our younger son’s initials spell a word people sometimes call someone “posh”, so they’re bound to pick up on that but only if they know his full name.

Named our ds Noah O. A. H. He’s sure to find the joke when he begins writing and spelling Grin

I had to discount a couple - NOB was one that I was sad about, as the names themselves were fine together, but I wouldn't be so concerned about COB or BOB for instance. HAT and TAT aren't awful, BRAT would be a no go for me!

One of my children does initials that spell a word, just a regular word like FROM or AND, it's not an issue although we did reject names for a potential DD as the initials would have been MOFO!

Icklepup · 15/06/2019 12:56

Those are fine I think.

AverageMummy · 15/06/2019 14:52

@Heymummee TOF??

Heymummee · 15/06/2019 14:57

That’s the one 😂

BarryBarryTaylor · 15/06/2019 18:53

My initials spell Amy, or they did before I married. I think it’s quite fun when your initials spell something, providing it isn’t rude!

Peachsummer · 15/06/2019 18:56

Not a problem as long as the initials don’t spell something silly. We went to the extent of checking whether we could get a private number plate with our chosen initials!

paintwater · 15/06/2019 18:56

Before my SIL married my brother she was R. Ash
Hat and Tat are fine in comparison

icecreamsundae32 · 15/06/2019 19:52

@paintwater Grin
My daughter is Cab no issues with that especially as my dad drives one lol

Starlight456 · 15/06/2019 19:55

My ex mil initials spelt VD back in the days when everyone called std’s VD. I used to giggle to myself. 🤣. So yes I did
