Maximilian - nn Max.

Martin is friends with Alan, Malcolm, Barbara, Margaret and Brian.

Also - I hate Martin Amis.

ritzbiscuits · 12/06/2019 18:29

Bloody hell, not Martin!

I really like Maximilian, Max for short. I like Maxim suggested above too.

BarryBarryTaylor · 12/06/2019 18:41

This is tough, Max’s (in all the variations) are ten a penny near me, and Martin is my FIL who I love so when I think of the name I smile...however he is a 50something grumpy manc Grin

WittyFool · 12/06/2019 20:08

Max is lovely and Martin sounds like a middle aged man sorry !

GloriousGoosebumps · 12/06/2019 20:27

Another vote for Maximilian with Max as a nn. Martin is boring.

I'm not a fan of Martin but I do like Martain the French prononciation

Definitely Maximilian on the birth certificate and then Max for short, much easier to write his name when hes at school Hmm

PetrichorRain · 12/06/2019 20:54

Martin is my DS’s middle name - after a deceased relative though. I don’t particularly like it as a name tbh! Max is nicer but not Maximilian.

PetrichorRain · 12/06/2019 20:56

This thread is making me feel sad for my deceased relative now :( He wasn’t dowdy or boring or a little old man.

PinkieTuscadero · 12/06/2019 21:04

it's just people's perceptions of a name. it's no reflection on your beloved relative. My name has been described as a 'bitchy girl's name' before. Which is a scandalous thing to say! I'm only a bitch 15% of the time Wink

PetrichorRain · 12/06/2019 21:06

I know, I’m just not really over his death, just being silly really, but it choked me up!

PinkieTuscadero · 12/06/2019 21:10

Not being silly at all. I'm sure your Martin was a lovely man. Flowers

and I've just thought of Martin Sheen. I amend my previous comment about all Martins being bores. Nothing boring about Mr Sheen!

SirVixofVixHall · 12/06/2019 21:23

I love Martin Sheen.
The Martins I know are not old enough to hang out with Barbaras , Margarets and Brians, they are Martin Sheen age.

TigerQuoll · 13/06/2019 00:14

Maximilian - just cause it was my beloved dog's name, called him Max, Maxy, or Maxy-boy.
There's no sweet nickname for Martin. "Marty" sounds like a creepy old uncle. Though Martin does remind me of the brave mouse warrior from the book Mossflower.

tdam · 13/06/2019 00:20

Definitely Maximilian!

Chocmallows · 13/06/2019 00:22

Maxim

Astronica · 13/06/2019 00:33

I think they're both really good names. I would choose Maximilian for it's coolness and love short forms Max or Maxim. However I think Martin is a very usable name, just less edgy.

IVflytrap · 13/06/2019 00:44

Martin. I love it, it's an ancient name, literally a variation of a name for Mars, the Roman god of war, which is why it's funny to me that it has a dowdy, "of its time" reputation to so many.

Also, you get the nickname Marty from it, which is lovely.

I don't know any Maximilians, but Max is getting a bit overused, in my opinion.

mmgirish · 13/06/2019 01:02

I haven't taught a Max that wasn't naughty.... just saying.

paperandfireworks · 13/06/2019 02:41

Max.

notangelinajolie · 13/06/2019 03:14

Maximilian.
My boy name but ended up with 3 girls.

Watersnail · 13/06/2019 05:01

Max is more predictable than Martin these days. A little Marty would be quirky these days.

NerrSnerr · 13/06/2019 06:24

I prefer Martin. I do like Maximilian but there are so many little Max around.
