Hi, me and my partner really like Forrest for a baby boy, but our parents and most the family hate it! Opinions please? 😊

I think it's pretty cute.

If you both love it then go for it.

scarecrowhead · 12/06/2019 15:03

The real Forrest Gump was a KKK leader - his name was Nathan B Forrest

ReganSomerset · 12/06/2019 16:29

I doubt he’ll hear “Run Forrest run” at all. Forrest Gump will not be a big or famous thing for people of his generation

I'm not convinced of that tbh. It was released when I was a toddler, but the reference wouldn't be lost on most of my generation. The 'life is like a box of chocolates' thing is so well known that I reckon people will continue to seek it out and watch it for generations to come in order to truly get the reference. Like The Godfather with the daughter's wedding quote. It's also a very good film imo. That said, I'd hope most people would be polite enough not to say it.

Gemmacrosby · 12/06/2019 18:23

@scarecrowhead I believe that's a fictional character of the film though isn't it? Not real life?

I don’t think he will hear run Forrest run, unless adults are going to shout that at him Hmm
I know of one little Forrest(6mnths) and he has a mound of dark brown hair and the name suits him down to the ground.
If you like it use it! I like that it can’t really be shortened

Gemmacrosby · 12/06/2019 18:53

And I've just read that actor Tom hardy has just called his baby boy ForrestSmile

Not in the slightest!
There are a few Rivers now and I think Forrest is equally a great name Smile

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Bedford_Forrest

Not a fictional character, I’m afraid.

BettyUnderswoob · 13/06/2019 07:36

Nathan Bedford Forrest is someone that most people won't have heard of. Also, Forrest is his surname (not first name), so he's hardly sullied the first name Forrest... there have been plenty of Forrest's since his time. And most names will have had a dodgy bearer at some point!

In any case, OP never said she was naming her son after Forrest Gump! Confused

Loveislandaddict · 13/06/2019 07:38

Big mistake telling people before baby is born. If you love it, use it. They’ll soon get used to it.

mummywingingit · 13/06/2019 07:39

I liked Forest for a boy or girl...of you both love it then go with it!
Family didn't like my name choice, but I still went with it...people now ask his name and when I tell them I get the odd 'I don't like it' but 90% of people say they love it! Family soon come around and now say he couldn't be anything else

Lobsterquadrille2 · 13/06/2019 10:11

Different and lovely in my opinion.

Fivefootoffun · 13/06/2019 10:14

Lovely. Unusual but cool. Go for it!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 13/06/2019 10:20

I do quite like it in theory but its a well known slang for poo where I live..

Ipanema01 · 14/06/2019 04:55

I really like it !

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 14/06/2019 05:27

Why does it have two rs in it? Can't you spell it "Forest" (if you really have to)?

BettyUnderswoob · 14/06/2019 07:49

Forrest, used as a given name or surname is spelt with two r’s thatmustbe.
