I love the name 'Lyssa' for my DD but only want to use it as a nickname and not a full name. Currently torn between Alyssa and Louisa as full names. What do you all think?

How about Melissa shortened to Lissa. Classier than Alyssa, which seems a bit trend-led.

I like Louisa much more than Alyssa.
I very much doubt Lyssa will become a 'natural' used name though if she is a Louisa.

Louisa. So much nicer and classier than Alyssa.

SassyBadger · 08/06/2019 13:00

'classy' is such a tacky word.

SassyBadger · 08/06/2019 13:01

Very....Swiss Toni.

Alyssa, this is my DDs name and I love it. Doesn't seem.to be liked very much by mumsnet though!

Penny4Thoughts · 10/06/2019 00:00

@SassyBadger I think people try to say chavvy without using the word

Weenurse · 10/06/2019 00:03

Louisa has been shortened to Lou here as well.
Melissa is Lyssa

Alyssa is quite dated. There were loads of them in the 90s.

Louisa otoh is a classic.

Why not just call your baby Lissa and leave it at that if that's what you want to call her?

Or if you really want a name that can be shortened to Lissa or Lyssa, I would go for Elizabeth or Elisabeth.

ElfishBiatch · 10/06/2019 09:12

Felicity?

sunnyshines · 10/06/2019 10:01

Just call her Lissa!

rachelgrace · 11/06/2019 21:10

Alyssa

Louisa is a beautiful classic - I might use it myself actually! And you can use any nickname you like - just announce the nickname first & let it stick. I don’t think Lissa is much of a stretch especially when you look at Posey for Josephine & Molly for Mary etc!
