Has anyone used a name suggested by a MNetter?

Just wondering how often people actually choose a name suggested to them on here.

I haven’t but I have canvassed MN opinion on a final shortlist and it helped with our final decision.

I asked for opinions and nobody swung for the choice I went for. It's not a name most have heard but it's a beautiful name. There were only 5 in 2017 and it was the first year there were more than 2 born on the records. I think the fact that people didn't say they liked it helped me want it more, as I knew it wasn't going to be popular. It gets tonnes of complications though in real life!

Ooh Turquoise, any clues?!

@TurquoiseAndPurple can you tell me where to find the dataset that tells you that? I can only find the top 1000 names for 2017, and the least popular name on there still has over 30 children.

@diddlediddle

Go to this page and type the name into the box shown in the photo I attached.

Note that it says The ONS does not include baby names with a count of two or less in England and Wales to protect the confidentiality of individuals

And the only clue I will give is that we found the name on the cartoon series 'The legend of Korra" 😋

Oooh is it Tenzin?

TurquoiseAndPurple · 01/06/2019 10:33

@TheRedFox hehe nope but we did put that on our short list for a boy! It's a girls name!

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/06/2019 11:09

Unless she was lying or subsequently changed her mind, a mner used a name I suggested on her thread. I'm pretty sure it was genuine though.

@TurquoiseAndPurple

Eska!

Me - I posted a pic of DD and asked Mnetters to help choose a name. They came up with a combination we loved and used. One also (inadvertently) came up with her nickname.

Canone · 01/06/2019 16:02

Eska is beautiful if that’s what it is!

I think a MNetter once used a name I suggested too. It was Corin for a boy — one of my faves Smile

Bingo!!

TurquoiseAndPurple · 01/06/2019 16:10

I always think it's like the girls version of Oscar.

Bezalelle · 01/06/2019 19:17

Yep. My Balonz is four now.

Mrspenny87 · 02/06/2019 11:57

@TurquoiseAndPurple wow that’s a really beautiful name! I’ve never heard it before but I love that! Great choice.

DogsandBoysmeanMud · 02/06/2019 12:03

Love the 'how popular is your name' site!! DS1 only 48 boys this year and DS2 374 which is a surprise as I've never met anyone with either of their names!!!!

hellomellowyellow87 · 02/06/2019 12:14

DD2’s name was given to 5 girls in 2017!
DS’s name was given to 17 boys!
Shock oh well, I like unusual names

TurquoiseAndPurple · 02/06/2019 14:04

Thanks 😁

And it's great isn't it! I've spent so much time looking at that page checking names 😂
