What do you think of the name Lincoln? I love it but family and friends are not keen. Would like to know what other people think of the name.

Lachlan or Lochlan? Similar, but less surname-y?

Jossina · 29/05/2019 15:49

I think it's great.

Pinkvoid · 29/05/2019 17:03

I really dislike surnames as first names.

HPLikecraft · 29/05/2019 19:40

Horrible.

TenPastTen · 29/05/2019 19:49

Love it and wanted to use it for my ds but other peoples opinions put me off. Love the nickname link as well

HoldingTheDoor · 29/05/2019 20:20

Awful.

MikeUniformMike · 29/05/2019 20:46

It's fine, but a bit American.

polkadotpixie · 29/05/2019 21:09

I like it 😊

Herefortheduration · 29/05/2019 21:11

It's ok, not to my taste but not awful. Don't worry about it being shortened, my dc have names with common nicknames but both get the long versions, it's possible.

Smoliver · 29/05/2019 21:34

I like Lincoln, and I like Link as a nickname, but I'm from Lincoln, so I could never use this name! Grin

MummyBear2352 · 29/05/2019 22:08

Hi,

It is not a name I would pick but if you like it then go for it. Your baby, your name choice.

Littlepond · 29/05/2019 22:12

I love it. Linc for short. I also think of Prison Break which I’m a big fan of!

SumAndSubstance · 29/05/2019 22:13

I'm not a big fan of surnames or place names as names, but it's not horrible.

cooksomeeggs · 29/05/2019 22:14

.... Stinky linky....

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 29/05/2019 22:19

Do you know what, its surnamey and American, 2 things I usually dislike about names, but I actually like it!

Someone I know had a baby Lincoln last year and I think it's actually a really good name!

BelfortGabbz · 29/05/2019 22:19

It's Denise Welsh husbands name. Every time she says it I cringe a little.
Not sure why as I don't usually mind most surname names.
It sounds a bit silly on a grown man somehow.

Antonin · 30/05/2019 11:12

Surely it’s a place name before a surname? Lincoln would have been given as a name to people originating in Lincoln. There’s a trend to giving place names to children eg Paris, Sienna, Florence, Assisi etc.
Sounds fine to me — good strong sound to it and no bad connotations.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/05/2019 11:40

My neighbour has a Lincoln and a Renesmee. Lincoln was named by his dad after Prison Break, and Renesmee by her mum after Twilight. She is pregnant again and they are thinking of a GoTs inspired name.

He gets called Link. It's quite sweet on it's own, but as part of a sibset of fictional characters, I think it's a shame. Who knows how those characters will end up?
