Are these names too similar?

Hi everyone,
I’m pregnant with twin girls and we were planning on naming them Molly and Lilah and it has been a pretty easy decision....
I already have two girls called Bella and Alice.
I told my friend the chosen names and she said that Bella, Alice, Molly, Lilah sounds like the same name done over four times changed slightly. I mean they are all five letters and have an L ... now I can’t decide if they are too similar or not, and its really bugging me!!
What does everyone think? Suggestions are welcome as now i’m slightly on the fence for Molly and Lilah...
thank you!

I don’t find them similar tbh. I doubt I’d notice the similarity unless I saw them all written down together.

SallyWD · 27/05/2019 14:45

I don't find them to similar. It's clear you really like names with Ls! They're all quite different and nice names.

Zoflorabore · 27/05/2019 14:47

I wouldn't say they are similar op, they're all lovely names.

I know of siblings ( non twins ) called Molly and Olly, now they're similar!

bridgetreilly · 27/05/2019 14:49

They are sort of similar, especially when you say all four together, but not near enough for any kind of confusion. I guess I'd say they make a set?

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 14:49

I think it’s Lilah & Bella that sound very similar
Molly
Alice
Bella
Delilah
Sounds completely different

It really depends if you care though - I think it’s really important that twins have their own individual names / identities which you have done - other than that though it’s up to you if you mind

OhhMyLittleGirls · 27/05/2019 16:20

Thanks everyone
I think I am still deciding if they are too similar but really they are no other names I like (well...I also like Hazel, but its exactly the same isn’t it?!!! Five letters with an L! and I prefer Molly and Lilah too..!!)
If I went with Molly and Hazel would that fix the problem a little bit because as a PP mentioned its Bella and Lilah that are very similar??

What about Poppy/Pippa/Penny instead of Molly?

MrsMeSeeks · 27/05/2019 16:27

Bella and Lilah are fairly similar - but not massively or weirdly so. Having the same number of letters doesn't really make names sound 'samey' to me - it's more about how they flow. I don't think they sound too matchy as a set!

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2019 16:30

I think they are fine

KindleAndCake · 27/05/2019 16:31

They are lovely names OP, not too similar at all.

DottieLottie1 · 27/05/2019 17:22

I think they are fine and go together. Although I'd spell Lilah, Lila.

Alternative to Lila-

Leia (yes as in princess but lovely)
Layla (and other spellings)
Lara

DottieLottie1 · 27/05/2019 17:23

And Lilia.

CalamityJess · 27/05/2019 17:40

I think Molly and Lilah are lovely and not too close. In fact they sound great all together.

Whoops75 · 27/05/2019 17:45

They are lovely.

Stick with what you have decided, no point changing a name for the sake of it.

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 27/05/2019 17:48

I really like them and dont think that the 4 names are too similar at all!

BigRedBoat · 27/05/2019 17:52

I think they 'go' nicely without being too similar.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 27/05/2019 17:53

I think they're all fine and go well together without being too samey.

Sophronia · 27/05/2019 17:57

They’re nice. I’d spell it Lila though.

Malyshek · 27/05/2019 18:39

That's the issue with sharing names before the babies are born, there's always someone who's gonna spoil it for you by saying how this name is his cousin's niece's sister in law's dog's name, or howit sounds like this or that...

I honestly don't think these names are too similar. Your friend is an ass.

I mean, the names do have things in common - being 2-syllables name with an L - but I wouldn't necessarily have thought of it if you hadn't pointed it out. And I actually think it's really cool for siblings to have this discreet link.

If you'd wanted to call them Sally and Callie I'd have probably suggested you didn't, but the names you picked are fine. Go for it and don't listen to friends /family. The only opinions that matter are yours and your partner's.

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 18:40

Hazel is beautiful
But really I don’t think this is an issue unless it bothers you.

OhhMyLittleGirls · 27/05/2019 18:49

Thank you everyone this has been so helpful Smile
I think I’ve just got to decide if I think Bella and Lilah are too similar ... hmm.

If that’s the worst someone has to say about your choices pre birth (once people have to be polite) then you’re doing pretty well !

3boysandabump · 27/05/2019 18:57

I wouldn't say they were at all similar tbh

Isntthatalwaystheway · 27/05/2019 20:28

I don't think they're similar at all - but they're all absolutely lush names!

Elmo303 · 27/05/2019 20:54

I think Hazel instead of Lilah would be really nice.
Bella, Alice, Molly and Hazel Smile
